Great Printer, Make Sure It Has Enough Juice to Ru

We installed the HL-L5200DW a few weeks ago, and we noticed that it caused our lights to blink or dim, when it fired up to print. After digging deep into the issue we found out according to the spec sheet that it draws up to 1,248 watts or roughly 10 Amps, but once it starts printing it uses 620 watts or about 6 amps. We had replaced a similar Printer which claimed to only use 579 watts or about 6 amps. Going onto Google we found a number of people that had blown out a circuit using the same HP printer we had. It turns out that though HP claims about 6 amps, they also recommend having the printer on a circuit with at least 10 AMP. Several reported that it drew in excess of 1000 watts when it started up. We solved our problem, by setting this printer up to share with the AC, that will not be used until the summer. An occasional draw of 10 amps on a 20 amp circuit, even when the AC is running and using about 5 Amps will not cause the same problem. In retrospect, we had similar light blinking and dimming when we had the HP.
This is a great printer, and it has a very good sleep and deep sleep mode. However, it does draw lots of power when it starts up. Turns out all laser printers also draw a lot of power when they start-up. So bare that in mind when you buy a printer. Inkjets do not use anywhere near as much power. Brother also makes great inkjet printer. I know, because we have one.

Amazing right out of the box. Responsive software, connected trouble-free to all of our devices. I especially like that it goes to "sleep" to save power and then wakes very quickly when you send data to print. Highly recommend

Great printer, quick and easy to use. Printing wirelessly is reliable unlike our previous HP printer which was frustrating to say the least. Would recommend this highly to anyone looking for a reliable monochrome printer.

Third Brother Laser Printer in 20 years

This is my third Brother Laser Printer (20 years) I have been impressed with the quality, reliability, and speed of each. This unit with the two sided printing is the fastest to date as well as the most economical. I have always used Brother consumables and not had any problems; they may not be the cheapest but in my experience, they are the best.

A good choice at a reasonable price.

This printer is used lightly daily. I had no issues setting it up and connecting wirelessly to the computers in our house. I haven't used all the features available yet but it does regular and two-sided printing flawlessly. I've set it to 1200dpi and everything printed is crisp and clear. It prints much quicker than the HP printer I'd used for many years. I'm very happy with this printer.
