Not ready for release

I've used a fuel+ band and fitbit previous to trying out the UA band. The scale is fine; its kind of silly large, but the interface is fine and it connects easily to your wifi. The heart monitor is... fine, I guess, but this is 2016. The band itself should be tracking your heart rate, not an elastic device around your chest. It was weird going back to an old school 2005 era heart monitor. The band, and the software that interacts with it, is a pre-release beta mess. The band itself looks cool but the UI is cumbersome and unintuitive. It has swipe functionality, but not tap functionality. Crazy. You have to use very fine motor skills to press a little arrow on the side of the screen (and amazingly, infuriatingly, switches which side it is on depending on the screen!) to get to more information. This is super annoying while running. You should just tap it like ANY OTHER FITNESS TRACKER. The band battery life is HORRIBLE. When connected to the heart monitor, (which it always should be when exercising, right?) the battery drains like a bathroom sink. 4 hours and it is completely empty from completely charged. Compare this to 5 days for a fitbit Charge HR. Crazy bad. The distance tracking is grossly inaccurate. For a 15 mile course I regularly do, it tracked it at 13 miles and change. While you can input your height, there is no variable for stride length. Crazy. A ridiculous oversight that makes the band pretty much useless. The software is a mishmash of poorly integrated old and new UA websites. The new "record" app that should link them all together just simply sucks. It only runs on the newest Android OS (if your phone is a year or so old you are out of luck), and the newest iOS. No computer webpage or app. And it really only integrates myfitnesspal.com in for calorie tracking. Zero integration for mapmyfitness.com, which is a huge opportunity lost. And no way to edit tracked exercises, and the only way to delete them is to go to that stupid faux facebook feed thing UA keeps trying to push and delete the post. Such a stupid interface.
This product has the potential to be good. The aesthetic of the band is good, and its got a color coded LED on the side that indicates your heart rate zone which is a great feature that I wish my charge HR had. They are marketing this system at athletes, but as an athlete, I can tell you it is not ready for real athletes. Right now it is just a silly fashion accessory. DO NOT BUY if you are looking for a real, professional athlete quality fitness tracker.

Glad I bought the UA HealthBox

I read a lot of the reviews and had mixed feelings about buying the HealthBox. All I have to say is that it all works great so far. The band is very comfortable and easy to use, the heart rate strap is very comfortable and syncs with my iPhone and band no problem. I was worried about the scale, but I put it on a level surface and slightly step on it to turn it on and have it calibrate to 0 every morning. My weigh ins are pretty stable and within 1 pound of my doctors scale and i get consistent body fat readings - not sure if they are super accurate but consistent enough for me to track. The heart rate on my band was pretty good and matched the machines at my gym, but with the strap it is much better. I would have given it a max performance but there are a couple of quirks with the UA Record app that need to be fixed. You need to be able to switch workout modes without having to complete one workout and start another. I lift weights and then do cardio. It would also be helpful if you could page through multiple workouts in one day, all you can see is the last one. Overall - a good buy, a little pricey, but worth it.

Potential! Needs some tweaks

- - I have a physicians scale to compare the weight readings with; it is consistently 1 1/2 lbs higher but it is very consistent in that difference;
- - the calories burned feature is not accurate; for bike riding it can be off by twice; additionally, the step feature is inaccurate when riding a bike;
- - the dashboard feature allows you to go back to "yesterday" and make adjustments; the "How do you feel" feature does not; I have found this feature not useful because I want to record it at the end of the day and if I forget, I cannot go back and edit it;
- - same with nutrition; you should be able to go back record your actual accurately;

A great tool!

I’ve had a chance to use the UnderArmour HealthBox and Record for a few weeks. I’ve had struggles in the past with getting into a routine; the HealthBox has been a great help with getting me into a workout habit. I use MyFitnessPal and Record to keep track of my calorie intake for the day, and the band syncs up my steps and sleep patterns as well. Having Record best helps me see my own progress, or what goals I still need to achieve in that day. The band itself is really nice. I should start by saying that I hate jewelry, watches, necklaces, etc. Most of those things just feel uncomfortable. After a few minutes, I hardly felt the band on my wrist; it was a natural, and comfortable fit. The battery is superb as well, I usually charge it in the morning when I shower, and the battery hardly goes through 10% use in a day. The Heart Rate monitor is great, as it’s another tool to help me keep track of my progress, and the quality of my workout. It did take a little adjusting to get comfortable with, my obesity may have something to do with that, but that’s just another motivation to get out and get into shape. The hardest part of it all was making myself get into the habit of using these tools, but with the push notifications on, Record sends little messages of motivation to go workout, eat right, etc. There are a few cons, but they are few and far. Mainly the step calibration is a little off, I usually wake up with about 60 steps recorded. The scale will also record anyone’s weight within 11 pounds of you. You can go into the app and delete it, but it would be nice to have an option on the scale to save the weigh in, instead of it being automatic. The positives of this product are far better than the cons. With a little adjustment to your own daily routine, the HealthBox becomes a great assistant to helping you keep track of your own progress and goals.

Not ready for prime time yet, but getting close

The scales are not accurate and provide no way to actually calibrate. They are self-calibrating which pretty much describes the problem. All scales, highly precise scales through cheap kitchen scales give you the ability to calibrate. UA does not so my scales are consistently off 2-4 pounds for me at 200 pounds or my wife at 100 pounds. In health and fitness weight accuracy is critical; from making weight for a competition to the struggle to measure weight loss progress accuracy is what matters. On the positive side, the WIFI connection to the scales has been rock solid - this is a major achievement for a battery powered device.
The wristband sometimes syncs and sometimes does not sync. The sleep monitoring is very accurate. The icons and controls are very easy to understand and use.
The heart rate monitor is better at syncing and is accurate.
For Healthbox to be anything other than a box with three different products inside, Healthbox (and Record) has options to integrate with other UA apps like MyFitnessPal. The syncing between Record, the other apps, and the healthbox devices still needs work. Too often you must close out of then restart apps to get the sync to work. Per UA support, which is pretty good by the way, I even had to uninstall and reinstall an app to get sync to start working again.
If you are an early adopter of technology and do not mind closing and restarting apps to get data to sync between Healthbox required apps, then you will only be mildly frustrated. If you just want something to work, then wait for a while
Overall UA is getting really close to a great set of products; but, the scales are the centerpiece of the Healthbox. Until an accuracy solution is provided and the app sync issues are fixed I cannot recommend Healthbox to people beyond early adopters.
I think UA will eventually dominate this space, and I am an early adopter, so I will keep trying to make this my fitness ecosystem. No one else is anywhere near this level of integration.

Does not work

I would like to apologize in advance for my non-English, im not a native speaker. I was thinking about purchasing Healthbox for quite a while and was extremely excited. When it finally arrived i unpacked it immediately eager to try my new system. I also had my friend over, we're both into fitness and i wanted to show off my new toys. It took forever to sync all three devices to my phone although they would not stay connected. And they dont work together "as a complete system." I stepped on the scale three times in the row and it gave me three different measurements and the difference was +/- 1pound. I also have carpet all over my apartment so only places i could use the scale were my bathroom and my kitchen. My weight everywhere else was aroung 25 pounds lol. I had to synchronize my weight manualy and the app asks to step on the scale every time you want to do it.. Then my friend stepped on the scale and it promted him to download the app and create an account. After doing so he couldn't connect the scale to his phone so i had to go to my phone settings to unpair the device, then he paired his device, then he stepped on the scale and manually synced. And then he went home and now there's no way to connect my scale to my phone because it still paired to his. (We both have galaxy 6) I guess the idea was that the only one person allowed use the scale since the app only created for personal devices and you cant share it with family and friends. Although it did recognized my friend as a separate person but after i stepped on the scale again it detected me as a new one. Being unable to use the scale anymore i switched to testing the arm band. By that time it unsyncronized with my phone as well and "hold the home button" didn't work, no blue light. Had to go to the band settings and "forget the device" and do it all over again. The band doesnt recognize workouts at all.. you have to initiate them manually on the band or app. Although the app option doesn't work. I couldnt figure out how to change timer value on my band or thru the app. And after that i moved to heart rate band. Of course it was already unsynced. It works only if you initiate a workout. My normal (resting) heart rate is around 95. Needless to say the light on the band stayed red the whole time, the screen was off, so i could not see my workout zone, it wouldt show heart rate in the app. The app also said " connect you hr strap to your phone to adjust the settings" although there are no any settings.. It doesnt measure hr continiously it only takes single stats when you request it from the wrist band. I also measured my hr and it showed 70bpm, my Galaxy showed 90 bpm and manual test showed 90 bpm.. The hr band completely useless. My 45 minute workout during which i did like 20 pushups burnt 408 calories according to the info that i got from the app. Its waaay off. Food tracking in the app forces you to use an external app.. I haven't tested my sleep yet and probably i won't. For 400 dollars i expected a top line product but all i got is a 5 dollar pedometer and a 10 dollar scale. Btw my phone tracks my steps and recognizes my workouts, i can also take single hr, stress and SpO2 measurements. I also have owned a jawbone wrist band that recognized my workouts automatically, tracked my sleep, calories, food, synced with my phone and woke me up during light sleep and cost only 65 dollars! I gave it as a gift to my sister. Now i want it back.. I would not recommend this produst unless you want to spend you money on jewelry/interior decor object because the only thing these devices do well - they do look good.

The Younger Sibling to Armour39?
on February 10, 2016

Like thousands of others, I have been a loyal fan of Under Armour for well over a decade. When Armour39 came out, I was one of the first have it (after convincing my wife I needed it). Armour39 was about $350 and consisted of the phone app, a heart rate monitor and an Armour39 watch (optional). Armour39 was really innovative and allowed me to track different aspects of my workouts which included heart rate (when wearing the Heart Rate monitor), duration, willpower, calories and intensity. The original heart rate monitor strap was too thin and would roll up when wrapped around my chest. Under Armour eventually came out with a better design that kept it from rolling up. I used Armour39 for probably about 2 years. I have been anxiously awaiting for UA to come out with something that would compete with Fitbit and Garmin. After hearing about the UA Healthbox, I knew waiting for this was going to be the right decision. I was really excited to see all of the changes and upgrades Under Armour had made from the Armour39. I first looked at the price tag for $400. It was a little bit of sticker shock, but I had paid nearly that much for Armour39 and wasn’t going to miss out for a little bit more money. Seeing the sleek design of the UA band, along with digital scale and newer looking heart rate monitor, I was pretty excited. I placed my order and started the countdown! Once I received it…I was like a kid at Christmas! The presentation was very appealing and the set up was ridiculously easy. I had already downloaded the UA Record App on my IPhone which made things even easier (this was an issue later which I will discuss next). The UA band, scale and heart rate monitor all synced up with no issues and I was ready to use. I was excited to see my text messages and phone calls to the band. However, for some reason it would not work. I could view my calendar notifications but nothing else. It turns out, I had to disconnect all devices, delete the UA Record app from my phone and reinstall everything. The UA staff was extremely patient and helpful and this fixed the problem. I love the design and comfort of the UA band. I primarily do Crossfit and am able to wear the band for almost every workout. It is the same when I go to the regular gym as well. If I can’t wear the band, my phone is available to track the workout as well. Being able to see the light on the band which tells you which heartrate zone you are in is very helpful and lets me know when I need to up my intensity. The touch screen is nice and easy to navigate. I do feel like the technology is a little dated and wish it had more features for the amount of money it costs. If a text is too long, it does not display the entire text. Also, you cannot answer a call or reply to a text from the band. While I like the auto sleep feature, it sometimes does not track my entire sleep time (you can just start it manually). I am not sure how well it tracks because it says I only average about 45-60 minutes of deep sleep. The vibrating feature to wake you up is actually kind of nice. All in all the UA band is a nice addition. I wear it all the time (except in the shower) and it has replaced my other watches. The Heart Rate monitor is pretty nice and is very durable. I have only had one instance where it shut off for no apparent reason and my workout didn’t get tracked. The strap is easy to adjust doesn’t appear to stretch out. The only issue is that it is just like the first Armour39 strap. It is too thin and rolls up making it a little annoying while trying to work out. The scale is pretty awesome. I like that it is digital and connects to my phone. Keeping track of your weight and body fat percentage is very simple. The UA Record app is very nice and keeps everything bundled together for easy access and quick view. Being able to link it to Mapmyfitness and Myfitnesspal has been nice as well. There really isn’t much difference when tracking your workouts. The same features are tracked with UA record as they were with Armour39. The UA band and Armour39 watch did the same thing with the exception of the heart rate. All in all, I can say I am content with the UA Healthbox. While I use it every day, I am left to wonder if I would have been happier purchasing the Apple watch and having more features available to me. I do consider myself to be pretty athletic and don’t believe the Apple watch would be able to be worn during more intense workouts. I don’t wear any other watches now since the UA Band is sleek enough to fit any style of clothing. If you are a loyal UA fan or someone looking to find a program that is user friendly, I definitely recommend the UA Healthbox. I do hope UA continues to progress and remembers those who were at the forefront of their technology.

Great Idea Poor Execution

I was so excited to get this as a bday gift and then I it came in. The heart rate doesn't always read. The band doesn't read all the time and doesn't make it a full day on a charge. Really disappointing.
