Excellent stove, w/ a couple flaws
on April 14, 2013

The stove is excellent, all that I'd hoped it'd be, except that the grill warped downwards almost immediately after firing it up. This made it very hard to slide the fire diverter back and forth. This was easy to fix by pressing the grate out, but I'm surprised it happened. Secondly, the small silicon grip on the diverter handle is pretty much useless. It falls right off. But, I love the stove. It chugs right along. The light is a wonderfully useful touch, and the charging unit is brilliant.

Best products ever!

I own all of the Biolite products and could not be any more happier. No more making trips to the store for propane gas or charcoal . Even if I'm just cooking out in the back yard with my Basecamp the food taste so much better with the all natural taste of a true camp fire, yummy!! I've had folks come to my house to see how it works and they are just amazed. Thanks Biolite for your products and your caring for the rest of the world.

I was blown away!

I was blown away by the BaseCamp stove! It was like having a bonfire, but none of my clothes smelled like smoke when we got back to the house! I was surprised at how easy it was to start the fire, and it was really easy to keep it going you just kept pushing some smaller pieces of firewood right in. The USB port is perfect with the gooseneck light plugged in because you can actually see what you're doing at night without blinding anyone with a headlamp - genius!

Good design but not enough heat
on October 21, 2014

I think it's very well-engineered and built. I also like that the stove battery holds enough charge when the stove is off. BUT, it's not hot enough enough to grill quickly even when the temperature at its hottest. 4 minutes to boil 2 cups of water is the same as the CampStove. Given the larger size of the burn chamber, I expected it would put out more heat. So I find it pretty slow for grilling or cooking for more than just a couple people, which was my intended purpose.

great for camping
on May 24, 2015

I've had my base camp for a little over 6 months now and it has been working wonderfully. The ability to cook and charge is great, as well as the efficiency. My favorite perk is the ability to cook an entire meal on half of one medium sized log (obviously split into smaller chunks of wood). I use my base camp every time i go camping for everything that requires heat to prepare, from marshmallows to steaks it works fantastic. I've been using my stove about every two weeks for the last couple months and am always pleased with the performance. The only draw backs that I have discovered is the lack of a fan toggle (to ease in starting) and the need for a better system to dispose of ash collected after long burn times. Other than those two small issues it has worked great for me. Thanks biolite for a great campstove and an even better basecamp.

Solid wood burning stove
on June 7, 2015

My family and I have been enjoying this wonderful stove. It works as designed and requires very little wood to run very well. It has become a new activity for our family to get out of the house for an evening of snacks and smores, and my wife enjoys the opportunity to turn off TV, phones and tablets for some real family time. As a result I have pulled it out on a near weekly basis for the last four months, and noted it to be both solid in design and sturdy in use. I found that sticks 1 inch (2.5 cm) in diameter and not wood chips to work best as a fuel source. The stove is smokey at the start but once the fan starts it is smokeless, unless you are grilling a fatty food such as hamburgers. As a power source it does well, and can charge my phone 50% in about 20 minutes, though results will very based on device and power draw. My only complaint is the very bottom edge is sharp and can cut you, deburring the bottom is easy enough with a coin run along the edge. I can with ease recommend this stove to others.

Kabobs BioLite Style

I love it! Took just a little while to master temperature control but with uniform fuel it is almost effortless to maintain the "swoosh" of smoke free cooking. Tell me how I can link a pic and you can see for yourself.

Love the full line of Bio Lite Products

I really love my Base Camp. It is easy to use, uses very little wood and the fact that it can charge my phone or tablet is a huge bonus. My wife and I are very into renewable things and this fits perfectly into that life style. My next purchase will likely be the Nano Grid.
