Best TV ever
on September 26, 2014

This is the best picture I have ever experienced. In fact, too good, because I am able to see all the blemishes on faces. This TV has so many advanced features, I haven't even begun to tap into all its capabilities, like the PlayStation on-line games, and 3D movies (not too movies out there in 3D).
I was hesitant at first buying it because it was more expensive than a regular HDTV but now that I have had it for several months, I am happy with my purchase.

Warning!

I wanted to love this set. But I got a defective unit. It suffered from severe back lighting issues. I tried to go through Sony's customer service. That was a nightmare. 3 hours and several disconnects. I finally has to drive 50 miles to return the set to the Sony sore in Glendale Ca. They were very nice and agreed with me on the defects. They offered me another set, but I decided to take a rest and enjoy the Sony set I already own. Here is a picture of the set I got. It might be awhile before I go through this nightmare again. I'm a loyal Sony fan. Every TV, computer, stereo, camera etc in my home is Sony. Please improve your customer experience. Thanks Jeff from Rancho Cucamonga Ca.

Best XBR yet and I have owned 10 so far
on October 25, 2014

I bought two at the same time one XBR 850A and one XBR850B and the B, is the one I am reviewing. I own and have owned ONLY SONY ,since they were introduced in the mid 80's. Once you get the setting down to your taste, everything is perfection. My only issue is light distribution, edge lite TV's in general aren't the best. Full array TV's are. OLED will solve all those issues. For now, everything seems life like, brilliant, precise and perfect. You couldn't ask for anything better. Anyone that even tries to tell you that LG, or Samsung or another brand, is better, just cant afford the a Sony. I wish I had waited a few months and could have save 1k per TV but that is how the market works. For me, if you cant the finest, wait don't settle and try and convince everyone that you as good a TV as a SONY. Your just trying to compare a Mercedes to a Cadillac.

How do I get to the internet, (ie how do I search using GOOGLE) on my TV,. Also, I was told I could use a keyboard, but now that I bought one, the sales guys say it can't be used!
There MUST be a way to get to Google Search and also do my email o this $3000 4K 3D * gazillion pixle Ultra Fine amazing quality TV

Hello FoamControl, in regards to your question the internet browser will show you the Sony Website as default. If you would like to search for any website go to all the way up while you are on the website as default and make sure to highlight it. Then press the center button on the remote control and a digital keyboard will be displayed to allow you type whatever website you may prefer.

According to the specifications of this model number a keyboard may not be supported by the unit. Instead the TV Side View app will allow you to control it by using a tablet, smartphone, etc.

Best 4K TV
on December 28, 2014

Great for gaming, movies, sports, streaming, etc. We have had no trouble connecting the TV to our network for fast streaming and using apps. Sony NOW is a plus where you can hook up a PS3 controller and play rental games.
Issues are that it occasionally flickers or we get a black screen for a couple seconds. What we found out was there was a compatibility issue with the DirectTv satellite box we were using. An upgraded box fixed the flicker problem.
Also find the menu settings to make fine tune adjustments or do something as simple as turn the camera off or on are not intuitive. The online manual is too generic to help you resolve those type of issues.
Overall great TV that is worth the money and the time to resolve compatibility issues. Just wish Sony would take a page from Apple to make there menu system more intuitive. And increase the breadth of their online help manuals.

Verified Purchase:Yes
I am a Sony person from way back when DVD and Sony television products are bought. I have never given another TV manufacturer reason to be bought. Why change when there is nothing wrong? Hands down, the best engineered and feature laden TV on the market. Past experience shows that Sony has not let technology overtake quality products. In the technology arena, you get what you pay for.
I just upgraded from a 2001 Sony XBR 40" picture tube HD television. In HD, the picture was only 32" diagonal. The picture tube was 26" deep, taking up valuable wall space. Bought the X850B 4K Ultra HD TV as the replacement and to gain more room space. It's now hanging on the wall and I could not be happier. Shows like a 'moving 3D color movie picture'. Sony has been working on 4K for 7 years now in their professional lines. The industry is just now catching up (4K) to Sony. It shows with this product.
