Freezer handle breaks easily-poor design

I agree with the post about the freezer handle breaking off. Why can't I just replace the plastic brackets on the handle?? Why are they plastic in the first place?? They should be metal! Very poor design and shame on GE for having to replace the whole handle! It could be a simple and less expensive fix.

Brand new: I like the French fridge doors and freezer bottom. The location of the water dispenser is very awkward. First you must open the left door, then working with BOTH hands, operate the device. A positive: when you release the pour button there appears to be no drips, so that's good. My preference is to have it on the front outside door, but that was not an option.
Also the ice making device is not easy to stop. I need to dump several bins of ice cubes in order not to have them 'freeze together'. This is extremely wasteful.

So far, so good. It is roomy, runs quietly, and is energy star rated. It is one of the few French door refrigrators that will fit my boxed-in space.
