Nice basic refrigerator

Had to find a new fridge in a hurry when old one went out. On a limited budget I found the G.E. refrigerator at a good price and went with it. I like the interior space, seems like a larger C.F. unit. The large door storage easily fits gallon milk jugs freeing up shelf space. It barely runs and when it does you hardly hear it except during defrost cycling which is no big deal.
Also like the glass shelves and the option to add an ice maker in the future.
For a basic refrigerator I believe it is a great deal that can be found well under M.S.R.P.
Have owned about 6 months and have no quams about it except the G E emblem on the exterior of the freezer door is held on with double sided foam tape the is thicker than the emblem allowing it be easily knocked off. again,no big deal.

Love the taller and narrower size. Great storage on door. However, the glass shelving sags in the middle when products placed on them. Also items placed on the back center on the top shelf in the refridgerator freeze. Vegetable bins are a little small. Would have prefered that the light bulb had a cover to protect it. Overall, it is a nice appliance for the price.

quality and design problems

The door hinges had a terrible squeak after 2 days, we were advised to apply vasaline, easier said than done. The fresh produce drawers squeak, and white particles were found on the runners, there is also scrapes on the drawer sides, obviously they don't fit correctly. We put vasaline on the runners, so far so good. Our previous GE was the same size, however, this freezer is a full cubic foot smaller. Additionally, the rack on the door comes too far into the freezer, therefore, even more space is lost. Not blocking the vents causes even more space loss. The produce drawers are also smaller. Our previous GE was 24 years old and was still functioning and seemed to be designed much better.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is actually our second refrigerator of this model. The first one had a defective motor or something & they sent the repairman to fix it, but it didn't stay fixed, so they chose to replace it.. We have had this one a week & it is working fine.

Expected more from GE

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Purchased the product in Aug. 2012, had to have the freezer seal replaced in Nov. 2012. This improved the frost build up in the top of the freezer, but did not eliminate the problem....still get some build-up. Freezer door pops open and closes when the refrigerator door is open and shut. Refrigerator door squeaks.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
