First Off, I was looking between the LG VU and the Samsung Solstice. Because of samsung's reputation, i decided to pick up the Solstice. When I took it out of the box, screen was super bright and start up time was excelent. During the first hour of using this phone, i tried the texting and mobile IM application. I sent 250 messages through text and over 150 in Mobile IM. The Virtual QWERTY Keyboard is excellent. Music player works good with 5.1 support and sounds great through my Dakota's 6 Speaker surrond system. I do not know about the internet features because their is always a laptop with me so I have no need to get mobileInternet. Same with GPS, have one in my truck, no need for AT&T GPS. Calculator function on the Solstice is just like a Trig Calculator. Had Log and everything. Awesome calculator on a phone. When dialing a call, the phone will list the names of people with the numbers that you have. Say you have more then 5 people with (555) 55_-____ It will show all the names with the start then it will go down to the ones that count. Awesome feature. Widget bar is a set widget application. Can not download others. Camera takes excellent photos and the video camera is great as well.
I would recommend this phone for any college kid as I am one and this phone helps me out alot. One thing with any touchscreen phone, you must get a screen protector. I use this phone alot and keep it in my pocket and also as a firefighter, my phone goes through a lot of abuse and for the month so far that I have owned this....... no scratches on the body. Other phones i have had, first couple of days I have had scratches. And this echo problem that everyone has.. not for me. It depends on the sub-model of the phone. But for this review, I give it a 4 out of 5, just for the widget bar the screen saver, not being able to change the pictures that show up.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Solstice rocks!

Solstice is my first touch screen. Thought I would have a big learning curve, but found it really easy to get used to. It's small for my little hands to use it one handed. Love how when you turn it horizontal, it displays a regular keyboard for texting. Almost got a flip up model to get the keyboard, but then realized I didn't need to when I found the Solstice, which means it's much more slim unlike the flip ups. Love the big screen and how bright it is. Only one flaw I see in the functionality of one of the features, (maybe they'll push out an upgrade for it soon). When you set a photo to a caller in your contact list...you do this so that the picture shows up when that caller is calling you, which works fine.... but when you navigate to that caller in the contact list, the picture doesn't show up....so then, how would you know that you have a picture assigned to him/her, and how would you delete it or set it to "no picture". Ummm??? Really need some protection accessories, but I guess since it's so new, there aren't any yet. Need a gel sleeve to put it in and some sheet protectors!
So thumbs up for the Solstice. Love it!

phone is great battery life is excellent, syncs with computer well, volume is good, only problem is that you cannot view the calender while talking on the phone, it stinks having to hang up look at the calender and then call back. other than that well made.

This phone is great for a middle of the line kind of person. It has all the features that you can get with the droid, but much cheaper. The touch screen is great, even with big fingers, after a couple of minutes I was typing on the keyboard with no errors. I like that it has no moving parts, (sliding, flipping, folding), to break. The battery life last about a day and a half for me with the blue-tooth on, which is not bad. I have had no problems with any widgets, all have function like they are suppose too. In my area I have had bad reception with other phones but not this one, it gets great reception.

I really value the reviews, so, here is mine. My husband has the eternity, same phone, lacks a couple of extras that are on the solstice, ie voice recog, motion detection. Overall a good phone, but the echo thing may be a problem. I tried turning down the volume, but the scratchy, ringing was present when i was listening to time and temp, and when i made a call the other person could hear echoing on thier end. This may be a return for me, as i use speakerphone during driving. but if you dont use this ONE feature, then you're good to go. With a bluetooth headset, all is well, phone responds well, quick processing. Havent had it long enough to tell endurance, but so far, so good. I would reccomend this phone if you DONT use the speakerphone.

I got the Samsung Solstice after having a Motorolla Razr for 2 years. This phone is the perfect phone for anyone at any age. The touch screen keyboard is so fun to type on and there is even a setting where you can text by writing out words! (It is called handwriting). Something else that I completely love about this phone is that I learned how to use it so fast during the first day I got it. Also, I love all the ringtones to choose from. I am in 7th grade, and you can't be going around town without a awesome ringtone! More, the bluetooth is so easy to use. I love the picture editing as well. Something else, I love is all the games to play. If you are having trouble choosing a new phone, a first phone or just getting a phone...STOP NOW! This phone has all you need!!!
P.S. Dialing is easy too! And my phone took this picture of tulips in my backyard....AMAZING!

Bought this phone 4 months ago. I wasn't sure if I would like the touch screen. But the qwerty makes texting so much easier than the numbered key pad. In some of the reviews I've read, they don't like the default screen saver pictures when you unlock phone (who cares). At least you can set your own pictures for your wallpaper. Camera takes good quality pictures as long as your subject doesn't move, shutter is a little slow. Overall, I would recommend this phone to anyone.
