[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As I approach (hit?) the 2 year anniversary of purchasing and installing this cooktop, it seems like a good time to write a review of it. To be honest, I really had no intention of purchasing an LG cooktop. First of all, we'd just built a new home and as such had all new appliances in it. Second of all, well, I tend to lean towards European brands. But. The new appliances the builder installed (lets say it rhymes with "Schmaffay") have proven to all be junk - ok, except for the double oven - but I digress. The included cooktop was fine when it worked, but it had three pretty bad flaws - one of which was a pretty bad safety issue that the company refused to fix - and the cost of service would have been 70% of the cost of a new one. So that brings me here: LG 30" gas cooktops are a direct dropin replacement for this other brand (the cutout difference was maybe .25" in one direction or the other) that I will never patronize again, so rather than dealing with cutting our (again, relatively new) granite countertop, I went with this cooktop. (Plus, honestly, my LG washer/dryer pair has been exemplary as well.)
And honestly, I have zero regrets. Yes, I bought an extended warranty for it. But (knock wood) so far the absolute worst thing I have to say about it is that the fit was a LITTLE bit tight for the cutout (not LG's fault at all) and that it doesn't clean itself.
I am including a photo, and honestly, I was about to clean it before doing so, but this is more "real" IMHO. This is what the thing looks like after 2 years of use and after a family of 5 has used it for 6 days or so since it was last cleaned. And if you're looking at gas cooktops, you need to know, they're not nearly as quick and easy to clean as, say, a glass induction cooktop would be.
None of my knobs have broken (major issue with our last one), none of the lettering has washed off (yet?) as others have mentioned perhaps happening to them, the red lighting is... kinda nice actually. The griddle is, well, just OK - not breathtakingly amazing, not bad. When you do clean the burners, they go back together with out issue (last one would take days to get all the burners *just right* and fully functional again.) Oh, and I have zero issues with the burner ranges. Middle burner boils water quickly on larger pans. The small back burner goes low enough for my needs (ok, minor complaint I suppose that I'd like it to go a tad bit hotter on high) and the others work as expected.
Honestly, and this is maybe the highest compliment I can pay after 3 years of misery with our last one, I just don't think about this cooktop all that often. This is because, it just works. I turn the knob, fire comes out (only where it's supposed to - again, unlike my last one) in the exact amount I ask it to and when I'm done, I turn it off and it stops.
Maybe I wouldn't like this one so much if I hadn't had such a miserable experience with my last one, but here's hoping this one blows well past the 4 years I got out of the last one.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We just switched from an electric cooktop to this gas cooktop and we are glad we did. It heats up fast and is very efficient. Cleanup is quick and easy. We are so glad that we made the switch.
Pros: Style/Design, ease of use, Performance, Quality
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am enjoying cooking on my new LG gas range. The feature that influenced my choosing this model is the ambient light around the knobs. With just a quick glance I can see if I have left a burner on low flame, a great safety feature! I have one criticism. The flame is adjustable but the tool needed to do it is not included. It should be because the opening is very small and deeper than the smallest screwdrivers that are typically in a household. We had to fashion one by altering a metal kabob skewer.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love the appearance of this cooktop. The red backlighting on the knobs is dynamite! The power burner in the center will boil my largest pot of water quickly. Finally, I was very nervous about cleaning grease splatters. I am happy to say I use the courser side of my Scotch-Brite pads with dish soap to clean this and it comes out gleaming. Occasionally I will use the Weisman Stainless Steel cleaner for polishing, but it's really not even necessary. This is a ten.
Love my new cooktop! The power burner is my new favorite!
