This dishwasher really does the job and we were surprised about how quiet this machine is and how much you can do with arrangement of the configuration of the shelves. would highly recommend Whirlpool to all my friends

Super quiet, less impressive silverware tray

Overall I think this is a very good dishwasher. I installed it myself and it was pretty easy as I was replacing an existing one that died. It holds more dishes than our last one, mainly due to the different configurations that the trays can be put into. The only real complaint that I have I'd the silverware tray. I thought that I would really like the fact that it is on the door and doesn't take up space inside, however where it sits in relation to the rinse aid fill and soap container makes half of it only useable for pretty short items. Also, the openings to hold the silverware apart to keep the from "spooning" work great for forks and spoons, but our knives will only fit in the six largest slots and won't fit at all in the side under the soap container. But outside of that it has been very good and the other features in combination of how whisper quiet it is, far outweighs the few drawbacks.

I'd been looking for a new dishwasher for quite a while when I came across Whirlpool's Black Ice series. It had everything I wanted -- stainless steel interior, tall tub, hidden controls -- but it was the style that clinched it for me. The black/silver handle combo exactly matched my cabinetry, and now that it's installed, it looks incredibly cool (the guys who installed it said they'd never seen one like it). I appreciate all the flexibility -- adjustable racks and tines on both levels -- and the innovations like the door-mounted silverware basket. It's amazingly quiet, and my glassware comes out sparkling. Best of all -- no more complaints from the peanut gallery about a dishwasher that doesn't clean dishes!

Meh...

It's a dishwasher with problem. Was never tested in a real kitchen. The silverware tray doesn't work as advertised. The top rack repeatedly pops loose and nearly goes crashing down, the bottom rack sometimes gets off kilter when rolling out, and you have to be very careful not to have a utensil blocking the soap drawer and check to ensure the water swing arm isn't impeded otherwise nothing gets clean. Customer support was useless. Very dissappointed as this was not the el-cheapo dishwasher. I will say if you get it loaded properly it cleans really really well - I really like the overnight option.

Not a great design

The design of the silverware basket traps food particles in the silverware, and the basket can be difficult to install and remove from the door. It is almost impossible to unload the basket without removing it from the machine. The pump motor starts and stops repeatedly whenever the machine is started or re-started. It does not seem normal, to the point I called in to the hotline to talk to a technician.

Appearance Fatally Flawed

I did a lot of research before buying this dishwasher. It had most of the features I wanted, was not too expensive, had good reviews, and best of all, matched my black-appliance kitchen. Unfortunately, none of the descriptions or pictures of the unit included the fact that it has a large "Made in America" sticker on the front, as large as the Whirlpool logo and crookedly slapped on, THAT IS NOT REMOVABLE. This sticker is multicolored and destroys the look of the unit. I assumed the sticker would be easily peeled off and so let the unit be installed. I was wrong - it cannot be removed without damaging the surface of the door. This on a "designer" dishwasher?? I'm all in favor of products made in America, and I understand Whirlpool wanting to highlight that fact, but why am I forced to have this ugly sticker part of my kitchen decor?? I started out loving it, now I hate the way it looks.

I'm a little disappointed that I have to run the heat cycle to get the dishes dry. On my last Whirlpool dishwasher I never ran the heated cycle and the dishes came out dry.It is very quiet which is good since takes so long to run a load.Holds more dishes that old one.

This dishwasher is very spacious, only need to run it every other day for a family of four. Utensils rack on the door really creates extra space. Adjustable racks and adjustable tines that hold down light weight plastics are great. Only thing that is disappointing is the the powerscour. It doesn't work as well as I expected. I don't use it most of the time since I use nonstick cookware. So, overall, I find this product to be perfect for my dishwashing needs.
