GE Profile range 30" top
on February 6, 2017

I purchased the Profile about 9 months ago. I believe one should use the product over a length of time before making a snap evaluation. First off, I am a male, retired and do all the cooking for the family and we entertain often. Although not a chef, I have been involved in the food prep and service industries as well as owning several cafes. I had a GE Profile that; for a home range top was not ideal but adaquate. This replacement is virtually useless unless you just want to put it in place and not use it. (It does look nice). OK, so what do I find objectionable. First and formost, the grates are too high off the flame so it is a waste of fuel and time by the time the pans warm up.Because the flame spread is sideways and not straight up, don't expect for things to quickly get hot. I'm assuming they designed this because they switched the control knobs from the side to the front and the knobs are way too high. If you were to slide a pan toward you, you would catch the knobs every time. In addition, the previous Profile had enameled grates; these are just cast and collect food debris. The grates are spaced too far apart and in my estimation, facing the wrong direction. I have an All Clad small SS pan that I use for melting butter. Set directly over the small burner, it will tip because of the spacing of the grate. Because I saute' and constantly flip food in the pan without the use of utensils, I constantly catch the edge of the pan on the grate. Again because of the grate spacing. I also find that if the burner tops are off center just a touch, the flame spread will be affected. Sometimes they just need to be tapped to get them to work properly. Fortunatly I have a commercial range where I do the serious cooking. Cooking whole salmon, steaming clams or fresh caught crab and cooking for 15 people at a time and all served at once. I have and have had GE products in the past; this one is a diappointment.

Upgraded in our new house. It's taken a little to get use to cooking with gas again but we both like it.

Came with the house. Cooking time almost doubled, crazy to put 5 burners in 30" and charge that much. Sold it and replaced it. Bad design.

Replaced a previous GE Profile
on April 2, 2012

We purchased this unit mostly because it was within 1/8 inch of the cutout from the previous gas cooktop - also a GE Profile.
I made the conversion to propane. Here the instructions were a little sparse but after a little while it sunk in what had to be done. (Minus a half point - nothing major).
There are 3 things that my wife does not like about this unit:
First: The grates are a little massive. and Second: She lifts the grate from the front and rotates it back. This will create a wear spot on the finish if she is not careful.Third: All the heat adjustment is in the first 1/4 of the rotation.

Doesn't heat fast; say no to high profile

Those of you looking for a 30" cooktop knows they are hard to find with 5 burners. Quality seems good, no complaints there. The problem I am having is boiling water, or cooking at high temperatures. The grates are too far away from the flame therefore the flame does not kiss the bottom on the pots/pans. I use only All Clad cookware which is heavy gauged steel and cast iron; yet I can't get a rolling boil going. I give this a "F" for performance and am looking to return this range. I went and measured similar cooktops and the average is 1" from the flame source to grate vs the 1 1/2 3/4" this range has. Buyer be ware.

I do not recommend this

We started using this cooktop from last couple of days and we are totally frustrated with this - The reason is it takes ages to cook the food as the distance between the flame and the grill is way too much and the flame doesn't reach the utensils properly and defeats the whole purpose I.e. we can not cook efficiently. I am completely agreeing with the review written by DAWN008 earlier. I plan to return this and do no recommend at all to potential buyers.
