This is a great stove top. I replaced an older Profile stove top with this one and am so pleased that I did. I had considered other brands but in the end have been happy with the Profile line. The temperature control is amazing, even down to keeping things warm for long periods without scorching. The looks are great, its easy to clean and the heavy iron grates give to stove top an appearance of a professional grade appliance. I like the LED lights around the dials as the burner can be on very low and from a distance you will always know if a burner is still on.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Wastes Heat Energy

We now have a month of experience with this cooktop. It looks fantastic, but I regret that we both have a significant negative with its waste of heat energy. Our old and trusty cooktop had individual burner grills over each burner, so that the heat absorbed by each burner's grill did not dissipate to the grills of the other burners. This GE cooktop, unfortunately, has very large and massive grills that cover several burners. So, if we heat water for coffee in a "tea pot" on one burner, the heat from that single burner dissipates through the entire grill, thereby wasting heat energy, and delaying the boiling of the water over the single burner. The grills are also too far above the flame, and that too wastes heat energy. If I ever buy another cooktop I will ensure that the individual burners have individual grills and those grills are close to the flame to conserve energy and avoid heating our kitchen.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Never had a gas range until now...

Sturdy and well designed

I purchased the gas cooktop and was able to install it the very same day. The instructions were clear (other than the regulator, which I was not clear which side was "up" and had to look at the previous cooktop installed).
The lock feature is nice, although the noise that makes is a scary one as if something were broken rather than reminding you not to use it.
I am concerned about the cleaning, particularly not to erase the labels on the knobs. I will contact GE to ensure the right product is used.
Also, you can't tell by looking at the picture (or in my case, in the store) that the frame is a bit curved. As a result, some of the finished product is not completely covered in the corners and now I need to do some small work to cover the openings on the countertop. I would have preferred the shape to be perfectly rectangular instead of slighly curved.
Other than that: good product!

Disappointing

I have this for 2 years and 4 out of 5 knobs needs replacing. It's not worth spending this much with a bad workmanship quality. It's not cheap having to replace those knobs either.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I have only had the cooktop for 1 month and I love the way the cooktop looks - only thing it has to be totally cleaned every time I use even one burner. After frying foods a couple of times, it has marks on the burner covers - wish it was more resistant and not have to be taken apart after each use. Overall, a little more work than I thought it would be.
I would recommend this to a friend!
