Sometimes explanations, etc. need be attached to the tax return: i.e., transaction summary sheet for Form 4797. If Turbotax can import files to attach to specific forms, it would great.
What's not so great: Excellent step-by-step procedure
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Great, until the end.....

Walking through the return and schedules was fairly easy, especially if I had the information needed readily at hand. The frustration came when it was time to file. I planned to print and mail the returns, but the PDFs printed with black streaks across the page, obliterating key numbers in some cases. I tried several print drivers for my HP Laserjet and they all produced the same results. I print PDFs all day from other sources and never have this problem. I ended up efiling and was surprised that there was a charge to efile the Kansas state return. that just added to the frustration. I have used Turbotax for years and have had a few glitches in the past, but there was no work-around for this one with the filing deadline imminent.
What's great about it: Tax forms were easy to fill out
What's not so great: PDFs printed with black streaks though numbers and whole lines.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

My expected refund is TOO HIGH.

I am sorry to report that after transmitting, I realize the Federal refund due me is WRONG. Since the program took into account my last year Turbo tax return, should it not have "seen" that I asked for a refund on line 76a of my 1040 last year?? Ultimately, I am responsible for not having searched more diligently when I saw the proposed Federal refund: I was tired and gave up trying to figure it out after trying in vain to find the link for the already entered amount. I will have to file an amended return or the IRS will think me a crook!
What's great about it: Very detailed and well organized program.
What's not so great: Where to find help is not always obvious.

Premier version not good for multiple properties
on October 13, 2016

The Premier version is not good for helping you determine the maximum deductions if you own multiple properties that are not rental properties. The questions are very limited that prompt you in this area.
What's great about it: you can import a lot of information from the prior year easily
What's not so great: Premier version is not good if you own multiple properties that are not rental properties.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Can't get rid of home office & business use
on October 13, 2016
Posted by: WetinSeattle
My wife didn't have any business income and I haven't wanted to use the home office deduction ever since I found out it wasn't worth it. But I can't get rid of it and it carries over year after year. And asks me questions about vehicle usage on vehicles I don't even own anymore. No idea how to make this stop and have the program stop telling me I have errors.
What's great about it: Thorough
What's not so great: Inflexible
Pros: I bought or sold investments

The Way it Used to Be
on October 14, 2016

I've been a user of Turbo Tax since inception and I've seen many changes over the decades. However, it appears that the program is getting more and more summarized as a whole return instead of treating each tax form individually. This makes it very difficult to print out only the form you need to review it and perhaps make changes. If a State tax return is needed it's impossible to just call it up by itself without having to wade thru the federal return. Turbo Tax is still the leader for a user friendly tax program that is also easy for the non tax professional to use. My suggestion is to make each of the forms independent until the entire return has to be printed. It was easy to access the forms in the old days.
What's great about it: Ease of answering questions for the non tax -professional,
What's not so great: Difficult to move around and select individual forms
