Not great for State taxes

What's great about it: Works great if you just have federal taxes and maybe one state to file with
What's not so great: Awful if you need to file in multiple states. Does not support K-1 entry for most states. Reams you with fees.

Failed to connect with USAA on multiple attempts before success; when returning/reviewing sections, didn't retain some of the info previously entered.
What's great about it: Thorough
What's not so great: Connection with USAA
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Disappointed

Every year I get a K-1 from a partnership that has a lot of standard business and little bit of rental income. Every year I put this information in. Every year I can't e-file because TurboTax complains about the two types of income and I CAN"T OVERRIDE IT WHICH DRIVES ME TO DISTRACTION.
I have called the IRS, it is not a problem. I have printed and filed returns with this "error" and they do not kick it back. Please fix this nonsense.
What's great about it: General ease of use, year to year features, etc.
What's not so great: Ridiculous e-filing process

Makes complex returns a little easier
on October 8, 2016

My returns are quite complex and Tt makes the filling and computations automatic, but you still have to manually verify the data entries and results. Importing data is nice but still requires a review of the data and frequently significant adjustments. TT still doesn't handle K-1's and stock exchanges/conversions well so a lot of manual readjusting is necessary. I had multiple problems with this years' return with those issues, and also had to recreate this years return several times to get the imported data right, as somehow last years' .tax2014 file data got corrupted requiring me to regenerate that return in order for the data and carryover to come out correctly. So it took me several tries to recreate last years' and several tries to get all the external data to import correctly and get entered into the right forms and the right number of times. It was a pain, but still better than having to redo it all several times manually.l
What's great about it: automatic form filling and computations
What's not so great: Really need to manually check the forms
Pros: I bought or sold investments

during error check does not explain how to correct errors, don't know why tax program didn't fill in those fields that were flagged with errors and those ones I had to read about to correct. Be nice if they had that help on errors.
Program was good and easy to follow
Best part was when I called the 3rd time for help from turbo tax tax employee's I got a person that really new taxes, forms, and the turbo tax program and answered all my questions and showed me how it worked and what forms were used.
What's great about it: copied taxes from prior year
What's not so great: during error check does not explain how to correct errors
Pros: I bought or sold investments

IRA to Roth Conversion
on October 8, 2016
Posted by: Jason60010
When doing 2 payments in same year (1/2 was for prior tax year paid in current tax year along with a payment in current tax year it took awhile to figure out how to make the total distribution to go to zero.
Ultimately was able to get program to produce right results. Think the backdoor roth conversion section could deserve another review/tweak. May be due to running taxes and than executing the backdoor in April of 2015, potentially my payment wasn't picked up in 2015 data import process (not sure if user or system issue).
I am a non practicing CPA (haven't done taxes in 20 years.. and 15 years away from public accounting). I do like that I can self read the regs directly along with commentary. Overall the program does a great job of making complex tax issues easy to comprehend.
What's great about it: Finally figured out how to do it
What's not so great: Wasn't straight forward
Pros: I bought or sold investments
