Filing failures
on July 5, 2016
Posted by: whathewhat
Two years in a row my returns were rejected. Year one there was an identity fraud issue, that I now think was from failures in the transmission/submittal of the forms. Year two was rejected due to missing PIN entry (no prompt) and then that was rejected again ( I think due to the identity fraud trigger from already being sent!).
Very disappointed with this product.
What's great about it: quick downloads and simple interface
What's not so great: no prompts for PIN entries, failed to provide good resolution for rejected returns

Confusing to know that you are actually working on and printing 1040X from interfaces available.
What's great about it: Calculated Federal and PA changes well
What's not so great: Will not handle Delaware Amendments

This could be made a lot easier for people in DPs

If you are in a Domestic Partnership you have to do both of your "official" federal returns then a fake joint federal return so you have that to do your joint state taxes. Problem is Turbo Tax only carries the information for one partner into the new fake federal return. You have to fill in all of the other partner's information. Why can't the software carry information from both partners' separate federal returns into the new "fake" federal return and save us sooo much time. Re-entering personal info, income, etc.etc. Too much!
What's great about it: Very helpful in finding deductions
What's not so great: when you move back and forth, it drops the checked boxes.

have been using program ever since it was first called MacinTax. Works well with"new" name, and their back up device is super!. .James state with me for over 2 hours resolving a password problem, even though I'm sure he is a PC type person. He seemed quite familiar with the quirks of my Mac.
What's great about it: easy to use
What's not so great: security measures can sometimes be a problem

Gotten more difficult to navigate
on July 13, 2016

The option to go to a certain section within TT should allow the ability to go to within the section, not at the beginning. Then you have to re-enter all of the preliminary information once again, without the options first chosen even highlighted. It would be a big help for TT to remember what you put in the last time to allow you to move on to the particular page within a section quickly.
What's great about it: Still, it does the job.
What's not so great: Difficult to navigate.

Very good for normal returns

I have used this product for years. In recent years, the step-by-step navigation, especially on State forms has become cumbersome and awkward, especially when trying to go back. Often you need to retrace the entire sequence! This year I had a special case (deceased taxpayer) where the required form (1310) did not even get included in the printed version even after I completed the form from the Forms tab. The forms showed it as incomplete, and the attempt to e-file simply stated that it was not possible as certain attachments could not be e-filed. This bug needs to be fixed. I would not recommend this product to anyone who must file a return for a deceased taxpayer. If I missed something in the process od doing the return which would have avoided this, then Turbo Tax was deficient in not pointing it out in the step-by-step.
What's great about it: Useful help for common forms
What's not so great: Navigation is weak, and special situations is poor/bad

This year 2015 turbotax seemed more klunky and less streamlined than previous years. Less intuitive, with superflous start buttons and unclear when it was importing from previous year returns.
What's great about it: easiest way to file
What's not so great: efile was rejected, not clear why AGI didn't match
Pros: I bought or sold investments
