Good, but Could be Better
on May 23, 2016

Overall, fine. Why limit the app to US citizens who still reside in the US? For Form 2555, it was not clear as to whether an earned income exemption is available only to individuals who actually paid tax on their earnings, or also to those just subject to tax, but were not actually taxed (e,g, earnings were below minimum threshold required for being taxed.)
What's great about it: Quick download of prior year's info. Movement between Forms and Interview
What's not so great: Certain items are not clear.

IT'S WAKE-UP TIME!

This is my 8th year with TT, have not been steered wrong yet, (this year should be the same) I am 78 yrs. young and do recommend it to every one that I have an IRS conversation with. Thank You TT. ( PS I don't know how to put my Picture up.) The wake-up is directed at people that have not used Turbo Tax yet.
What's great about it: Everything is in good order, easy to manipulate though
What's not so great: I wish it went back to where you were, instead of taking you back to the beginning.

Great overall; could use tweaks for military

Overall - fantastic! Have used Turbotax for years. I wish though that they made it easier for couples where one person is active duty military with a home of record separate from the spouse. For example, I'm a VA resident, my husband PA, so when doing my VA state taxes, I have to create a shell Federal return under "married filing separately" in order to get my VA state taxes to populate properly. (I first file my Federal return under "married filing jointly" before doing the shell to populate my VA state taxes.) I've got it down now, but it would be great if TurboTax handled it without having to go back and recreate the Federal shell.
What's great about it: straightforward, user-friendly, exhaustive
What's not so great: doesn't have an easy way for military couples to file

Farm and Condo

TurboTax keeps wanting to lead the preparer to the Schedule F for rental farms rather than to Form 4835 when one rents a farm to a third party. Better this year than in previous years as you have added a rental only button in a few places. Overall I like Turbo Tax
What's great about it: I like the way Turbotax leads one through the process of possibilities for deductions
What's not so great: Although it is better this year than in the past, it is sometimes difficult for Turbotax to direct one to form 4835

Good - but check twice

I am a long term user of Turbotax and have had a good experience in the past when preparing my tax return. However, you should be aware of one catch. The direct deposit information for the federal return does not transfer automatically into the state. You will not be asked in the state interview. The information will need to be entered on the state info worksheet manually. If you don't do this you will receive a paper check which takes longer to receive.
What's great about it: step by step, and import features are great
What's not so great: State direct deposit info missing
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Tedious but worthwhile and cheaper than an account

I am a 75 years old female and have been doing our taxes on Turbo Tax for many years. The step by step concept makes it fairly easy to use. I have an extensive computer background, but it may not be has easy for an older person without one. The toughest and most tedious part was the E-File process. Not fun and can be very confusing for a lay person.
What's great about it: Step By Step guidance makes it easier with constant reiteration
What's not so great: Completing the Turbo Tax was a lot easier than E-FILE!!! Very Complicated

No access to easily correct info on state forms.

I understand the need to filter calls with questions about tax regs. and policies, but you really need to have a ready-access toll-free phone number for customers encountering glitches in the system that prevent customers from continuing with the task at hand. And, not opening up customer service till 8 a.m., Pacific Time? That's 10 a.m. on the East Coast. Half the morning is past by then! What about customer service on Saturdays?
What's not so great: TTx showed mistakes on state tax forms but didn't allow entry to quickly correct errors, such as too long a job title.
Pros: I moved

poor software
on May 26, 2016

I am very disappointed in turbo tax this year. Software was very difficult to successfully used, diagnostics of return were poor. For example, it was huge effort to understand why I could not file return electronically when solution which I found without turbotax assistance was simple. I doubt I will use turbo tax again.
What's great about it: much worse than previous years
What's not so great: did not capture all data from last year's return; corrections difficult to accomplish, explanations poor, below standard
Pros: I bought or sold investments
