2015 Program was Disappointing

I was disappointed with Turbo Tax. This year's Turbo Tax seemed disjointed, as if the program had been written by three different people. It didn't automatically update my information from last year like it usually does. The different parts of billing information didn't flow in the same format every time it was requested. I would like it to to auto populate the same information from the first entry with an option to change it (name, address, credit card, etc). Without these features...it took me longer to complete my taxes. A couple times, the program would popup the internet for no apparent reason. Also, when I tried to log into my Turbo Tax account to make payments, it kept timing out. I ended up having to take another option. And it wasn't clear if you already have a Turbo Tax PIN you don't need to try an obtain another. I think I'll have to think twice before making a Turbo Tax commitment next year.
What's great about it: The program is easy to use.
What's not so great: Didn't auto populate like it did in the 2014 version

Expert at Unusual income & amendments

For my 2015 taxes I called your help desk as I had some odd income listed incompletely on a 1099-B form. Your help desk was amazingly helpful in figuring out that it was due to a long term investment (even though not all the dates were supplied) and how to appropriately acknowledge it. In the process I realized that I filed a similar gain incorrectly in 2014 on my taxes. I waited until I had time to deal with this (ie. tax season was over) and called the help desk again. It took some time to figure out what was going on in my system (I used 2 different tools to submit my 2014 and 2015 taxes so there were different programs to wade through) but the help desk was able to talk me through the amendment process. Viola! Fingers crossed we'll get some of the money we overpaid in 2014 back. Thanks Turbo Tax & your awesome help desk!!
What's great about it: Loved the call back for help! Very knowledgable & got up to speed quickly!

Sorts out the complexity of dual nation tax report

I was dreading my tax preparations this time around after moving to the UK. This was my first time through dual taxation. Learning curve for UK tax was straight up. Once it was completed I had great trepidation about starting the U.S. tax return. I was very pleased with the comprehensiveness of Turbo Tax capabilities. I got through the process and even enjoyed the benefit of TT advising me of a tax credit I was eligible for in the state of Virginia. I am very satisfied with TT's rigor.
What's great about it: Have used for years. My first dual nation tax reporting was a success
What's not so great: Only cons are all about U.S. excessive detail requirements

Turbo Tax is still the easiest way to file taxes

It seems to me that several changes must have occurred in Turbotax this year compared with last year. I had to revise my tax return several times because I couldn't find where to enter certain data. I think the nomenclature used in this year's form is different. I finally managed to get it all done in spite of having to pay some tax. For example, finding where to enter foreign earned income was not straightforward, nor was managing the foolish health care form. Depending on how you answer the question - for example, I have health coverage where I live overseas, but there was no provision for answering that question.
I will continue to use Turbo Tax, but I hope they change some of the language or explain it more so that I make fewer revisions.
What's great about it: Step by step managing your tax return is much easier
What's not so great: some of the items inserted last year automatically, had to be entered by hand this year.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Why I Use TurboTax

We've filed with TurboTax since is was available on 1.44Mb floppy disk only. Been audited 3 times, and each time the IRS Request was answered without penalty or interest. We don't have a complex return, but we do have Schedule A. Filing with TurboTax, the IRS already knows the calculations are accurate.

WV State e-file a disaster

WV Tax Dept disallowed Schedule M modification for police retirement, in the amount of $1300.00 ,because the required documentation was not submitted. The return was submitted electronically by Turbo Tax. I called and pointed out to them that the "WV Withholding Tax Schedule" advised not to send W-2"s, 1099's etc. They were not impressed. Consequently, I've ended up sending my 1099-R, police retirement ID card and copy of my Fraternal Order of Police ID card. Have not heard back from them as of 5/21/16.
Bottom line is that I cannot file electronically because of the documentation issue.
Also, Turbo Tax should contact the State of WV Tax Division, because they are not on the same page!
