fastest way to get your taxes done

I do not see any better way to get my taxes done. If your taxes are not too complex it may be even faster than getting an accountant. Every once in a while, however, TurboTax stumps me and it seems the only way out is to pour through the IRS publications - it can be painful, but luckily does not seem to happen often.
What's great about it: Precise - User friendly
What's not so great: The odd misleading label that requires reading the IRS forms

A Big Blip when filing Non-resident tax for Hawaii

E filing for Hawaii was a first this year and when it came to e file, I paid my TT on line for Hawaii State non resident Taxes and it wouldn't accept it and said I had to mail my return because TT doesn't cover form N-158. It took me forever to get a suggestion that would work from the community blog. Luckily the deadline for Hawaii is April 20th.
What's great about it: California State Tax and Federal were fine as usual
What's not so great: E filing for Hawaii non resident tax was a problem

What's great about it: Tracks last years info. Guides me through the process. I got money back. Easy to leave and come back to.

15 Days of Pain

i spent 15 days attempting to again download my program because of a computer failure. The Phone folk were great, but the pass-word back-up and access to other files was very BAD!
Every time I got a pass-word agreed, it would be rejected by the system because someone had not added it to the records after the phone staff got it corrected. we went through about 40 versions of the pass word - until I finally called the President's Office for help. Then it moved very quickly & I had my software on my computer in 15 minutes! This was late afternoon 4/18/16.
I still had to file with a late fee --- But it was Complete!

I compared Turbo Tax with my CPA

I always hire a professional CPA to do and file my actual return because I have a complex situation. I later used TurboTax as a mathematical model to do sensitivity analysis to figure out, say, if I earned $1000 more or less, how my taxes would really change, or if I gave $1000 more or less to charity, how the taxes would change.
Turbo tax uses a much simpler approach to capital gains than the CPA, so simple I'm not sure I would trust it. The result was, I would have paid $60 less Federal tax with TurboTax but $1100 more than advised by my CPA for State of Illinois Tax. My CPA charged around $500 for the service.
I think you need to use a human professional if you have a complex situation. But there's still a use for TurboTax as a model for financial planning and analysis, even if you use the CPA for your real return. It's serving me well for that purpose.
Better yet let's choose a President who will introduce a flat tax you can file on a postcard!
What's great about it: Turbo tax is cheaper to use and I can do multiple models for sensitivity analysis
What's not so great: My CPA saved me $1100 I would have paid with TurboTax on state taxes

Got it done - US filing with Canadian RRSP/RESP

Electronically pulling in data from employers, brokerages and financial institutions saves a lot of time and eliminates potential errors. Great feature. Continue to add to this.
Given that Intuit has similar products in the US and Canada, it would be great if you could offer a Can-USA version to those who have to file in both countries and/or deal with accounts from one or the other country. There are a lot of cross-border folks who could use a little help to do their own taxes which are only slightly more complicated than a single filing. The fees charged by CPA's/accountants are quite high and 95% of it is already done by TurboTax.
What's great about it: Easy to use and switch back and forth between the interview and forms
What's not so great: Would like to see better handling of Canadian accounts.

Easy to fill out

Have used Turbotax for several years now and it is really easy to complete taxes. Used other software and going into a tax accountant but they charge a lot of money or is not as easy. I am confident that all deductions were found.
What's great about it: Easy to fill out. Turbotax finds ALL deductions and it was helpful to upgrade to Premier due to rental property
What's not so great: Actual process to e-file is cumbersome with verifying many different ways.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments, I moved

E-Filing Issue

I tried to file on the 18th. Complication on being overseas, I tried to transmit and received message that software needed updating. I updated, but software up to date, still couldn't transmit. Helpdesk told me to uninstall software and reinstall which worked. Unfortunately, I had to have my spouse go to post office and spend a couple of unplanned hours standing in line to post-mark a check to IRS. Software should have worked the first time. Disappointed. First real issue I have had with turbo tax in 20 plus years.
What's great about it: Help Desk corrected the issue after the 18th
