Been using Turbo Tax for years. Such a great way to complete your returns. Some people try to save money going with another software package. Don't even try as Turbo Tax is the best.
What's great about it: Simple and accurate as always
What's not so great: Had trouble paying for e-file at the end
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved

Not up to standard this year

Improvements: transitions from Easy Step to Forms and back seems more seamless this year. And more effort has gone into getting the Clergy Housing Allowance right.
But ... the Clergy Housing Allowance isn't quite right yet. And: having to re-enter the same vehicle data more than once is annoying; nor does vehicle data appear to import from previous years. Reviewing answers given to EasyStep questions is still awkward. Schedule E may have a bug in its passive activity programming.
What's great about it: Easy Step is thorough, makes sure you don't miss anything!
What's not so great: Confusing instructions, multiple entries of same data asked for, possible programming errors
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Stupid process for electronic filing. Asks for credit info and personal data and then starts to ask questions for which there is no entry needed or info to provide...I DID NOT NEED a K 1 filed this year. Can't e-file unless I lie about something. Another form the same. Am I to be charged for e-file when it would not transmit without erroneous data.
What's great about it: OK until e-file screwed up the process

2015 taxes

I had to do a lot of re-checking and going back and forth from easy steps to forms. Seems Turbo tax is getting more frustrating to use. It started last year and got worse this year. I tried getting help prior to spending a good 2 hours trying to fix it myself through the forms, but ended up waiting an hour on hold before having to hang u because i had to pick up my son. The issue was with paid family leave I checked that box and it took my husbands enter income and made it PFL, which completely messed up my State taxes. I went in and corrected it but it would not correct it, I even went completely through it again and nothing changed. Countless hours wasted..
What's great about it: used it last year didn't have to re-enter info
What's not so great: froze A LOT, i had to manually enter changes in State because they didn't change over when changed in Federal.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

SEVERAL MAJOR BUGS COST ME HOURS THIS YEAR, AS FOLLOWS: - ONCE IMPORTED, PREVIOUS YEAR TAX DATA CAN'T BE CHANGED IF INCORRECT, REQUIRED COMPLETE RE-ENTRY OF ALL DATA ON NEW TAX FORM - ELECTRONIC IMPORT OF BROKERS DATA ON STOCK TRANSACTIONS THAT HAVE NO BASIS OR ACQUIRE DATE CAUSES WORKSHEET ERROR WHICH PREVENTS TAXES FROM BEING FILED (EVEN THOUGH TAX FORMS ARE CORRECTLY DONE), HAD TO ENTER INCORRECT DATA TO FOOL PROGRAM, SUBMIT TAXES - WAS DIFFICULT TO FIGURE OUT WAY TO MOVE BOOT ON 1031 EXCHANGE ACROSS TAX YEAR BOUNDARY, HAD TO FORCE INSTALLMENT PAYMENT TO FAKE OUT
What's great about it: DIRECT FORMS FEATURE FOR COMPLEX RETURNS
What's not so great: TO MANY MAJOR SOFTWARE BUGS IN PROGRAM
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Foreign Tax credit

Interview questions should be clear if it wants foreign sourced income or foreign sourced QDI for mutual funds. Then more confusion is added when LTCG is added into total foreign income (div and LTCG ?). Is LTCG related to foreign tax paid ? Please add a tip sheet (hotlink) for Mutual funds on what boxes to use on form 1099-DIV and for what percentage or income definition to ask the mutual fund companies re: foreign taxes paid and foreign income needed in Turbo Tax. Service reps at MF companies don't understand what TT interview questions are asking. Thank you,
What's great about it: interview is trying to be simple
What's not so great: Interview questions should be clear on foreign sourced income or foreign sourced QDI for mutual funds.

Good but not on Deadline Day
on April 19, 2016

I have used Turbotax for the last 3-4 years and I have been very happy with the application and service. However, this year, while the interface was great--the server was extremely poor. I spent 3 hours trying to finish a few minor edits in my taxes because the program kept disconnecting and freezing. I've transmitted on deadline day before and did not experience this enormous delay. I was not even able to make the deadline. I hastily filed for an extension and I do not know if I filled it out properly because of the speed needed to complete it. I am now very worried about the status of my return and whether I will be approved for my refund. Even more, I am getting married and need all the extra funds I can get.
What's great about it: simple, intuitive, user-friendly, cost-effective
What's not so great: server was very poor prior to deadline
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved
