Dependable and predictable

This is product I will stay with. It always seems like there is something in my return that is very complicated, but I have confidence that TurboTax handles it as well or better than most any tax profesional.
What's great about it: filled in last yar's information, comparison to last year and national averges
What's not so great: hard to understand state tax changes

I will think long and hard before I use Turbo Tax again next year. It's just getting too expensive when there are other packages available. In the past, purchasing the software package included both federal and state filing. Now the package only includes federal filing. Sad when there are no longer any rebates and the price of the federal package has gone up so significantly.
I was less than thrilled that it took considerable time to figure out how to apply a refund to next years taxes. Why can this not be a part of the regular questionnaire at least when a refund is determined.
Like I said earlier, I don't know that I will use Turbo Tax again.

Please stop interfering with the IRS modernization
on April 18, 2016

As a longtime customer I resent efforts by TurboTax which have resulted in stalling IRS modernization which congress mandated.
To tell you the truth, I am at the point of being at a loss for words.

A step in the wrong direction

I have been using TurboTax since 2009 and had always had a great experience until this year. To begin with it took longer to install and I was having issues with MAC OSX, it prefers Yosemite +. While I know I need to upgrade to Yosemite, I would have expected TT to still work well with older OS versions, especially considering that those of us who have used software for many years have older electronic returns somewhere on our hard drives that we may need to access, and you would think someone thought about that. Once I was able to install and I worked on my taxes I encountered a major and severe delay when trying to enter the information for my healthcare plan which is a new requirement under the Affordable Care Act. I tried to restart and did not work, I found a note on the TT website that suggested to restart, but first erase all turbotax/Intuit content from Cache on the browser and that seemed to work. At least after doing that I was able to enter the information from my 1095 form, however it froze again after I entered info and as I tried to go to next step. It did save the information, but I had to go through same process of cleaning the Cache and restarting laptop since I wanted to make sure all I entered was saved. The weird thing is that while it seemed to hang on the health insurance information tab, the software could still work on the other areas such as deductions, income etc. My last beef was with processing a NOLA on my return, this was a first for me, and while TT does allow you to do this, it does not have a lot of information on the implications of NOLAs, which is important since you only have one opportunity to make a decision to carry-back or carry-forward a NOLA. This was one time where professional help would have probably been best. I am not sure if I will use TT again next year. It had been great in the past, but we shall see in the future.
What's great about it: Fast e-filing & Great Interface
What's not so great: Encountered some bugs, especially in the healthcare information area. The program got stuck in processing this area.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Turbo Tax Premier 2015 Issues
on April 19, 2016
Posted by: reddjamie
Been using Turbo Tax for years and have not been as frustrated as this year. Always an issue is the number of questions that are never answered. Would be nice to have a subject forum like "Turbo Tax 2015" where there is one place to look for problems etc. Now I have to submit questions or a string of words and hope that some of the questions and answers found relate to what I was asking. Secondly, why does TT ask me to input my bank information when it obviously has it already? And why wouldn't TT accept 04/18/2016 as a valid submission date? I had to put in 4/15 to get my taxes e filed. I hope that it goes through.
Also on the interview for Rental property: there is a question asked about when you acquired a rental property. Then when TT reviews your information, the date pops up as when the property went into service. Those can be two very different dates.
Also, it seems to me that the printing of your tax returns are all the same option (you get everything) no matter what you choose in the drop down menu. The Health Entry Sheet also besides the entry problem, also puts in everything on the bottom (name, SSN etc) that the form says NOT to put down there.
What's great about it: Fast calculations
What's not so great: Annoying errors, Questions not always answered

Very easy but would like paypal option
on April 19, 2016

I am fairly uncomfortable with providing my card and account numbers and would prefer using PayPal. Perhaps that would make it less expensive than using the credit card option or handing over my checking account info.
What's great about it: very easy to use
What's not so great: I'd prefer to enter my charitable deductions without prompts

Why Pay for someone else to type in your data!
on April 19, 2016

Why Pay for someone else to type in your data! That's what you do when you pay a professional tax preparer to do your taxes. You still have to provide all the receipts, w-2's, 1099's, etc to them and all they do is enter that data in a tax program they use. With Turbo Tax you can do what they do. Think of Turbo Tax as your professional tax preparer!
What's great about it: Good walk through procedure.
What's not so great: too many extra things to do when all you want to do is hit the file button
