Help the filers who owe high taxes

For filers with high investment income, the product should proactively ask for investment expense info.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Very Disappointed
on April 18, 2016

Still does an excellent job walking you through even the most complicated taxes. HOWEVER this year for the first time it froze every 5 minutes at a minimum. Working fine, and then all of a sudden the mouse and touchpad would move the cursor, but you could not select anything, or key from the keyboard etc. Frequently more frequent than that. Had to save on every screen, then when it happened use 'end task' to do an abnormal end to the return, and then launch it again, and re-enter the data that you had not saved yet.
So frustrating. I have used Turbo Tax for decades, but I may be forced to try another vendor after this frustrating experience.
What's great about it: Still does a good job talking you through even the most complicated taxes
What's not so great: For the first time ever it kept freezing and keyboard and mouse would not work - only in Turbo Tax
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Would Not Accept Taxable Scholarships on 1098-T
on April 18, 2016
Posted by: Student123432
Had to make a non-standard W-2 form to capture this income in the end. This should be an entry option within the scholarship section.
What's great about it: Pretty quick and simple for everything but 1098-T Taxable Part
What's not so great: Impossible to get 1098-T Taxible part on line 7 of 1040EZ

Turbotax Gets Better Every Year
on April 18, 2016
Posted by: RENCJK
Overall 2015 TurboTax was the best version yet! Great product, easy to use with great features. I am making more of an effort to use Quicken this year, especially since I have discovered all of the great download features in this years Turbo Tax. I would encourage anyone with rental property, or working from home to take advantage of tracking your expenses in Quicken and then downloading your tax information into Turbo Tax.
What's great about it: Better help menus, easier to use forms, great hints and auto sums
What's not so great: fewer cons in the 2015 version than ever before. Review section is still a little hard to follow--but it does work well

Rita's refund - nice experience
on April 18, 2016

It is overwhelming when you have rental properties. The program is not set up to populate all the correct fields. I had to do it manually. The program needs to be able to provide more questions and more details, particularly, if there are rental properties to report.
What's great about it: Easy to use. An improvement from last year!
What's not so great: It is still a little overwhelming to go thru all the forms

seemed more difficult
on April 18, 2016
Posted by: MSantoyo93
I didn't have the ease that I seemed to have had before with entering stock buying/selling. Also had a more cumbersome time with donation deductions.
What's great about it: I liked being able to do my own taxes
What's not so great: Seemed more difficult with deductions/stocks buying & selling

confusing vehicle questions
on April 18, 2016
Posted by: cr33
My very old and much loved car was totaled when I hit a deer last summer, and it was replaced a couple weeks later with another car. When the TurboTax interview asked me about the fate of the old car, there were two options: traded in or sold. Neither applied. I tried the traded in option to see what would happen, and it created a form that I had to manually delete after many error messages and many questions that were impossible to answer. There should have been a 3rd option in the interview for a car that is lost or abandoned. I later found a place to enter info on a car that's abandoned, but the interview question was confusing and frustrating. Please fix! Otherwise, I'm happy with using TurboTax.
What's not so great: two choices listed, neither applied
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments
