TurboTax Review
on April 18, 2016

For the AZ taxes, would have liked to have some quick guidance on the deductions/credits, for AZ Form 323 and 348. Had trouble identifying where to insert it. Also, I needed to research contributions associated with fostering dogs/cats for 501C(3). Could have put some prompts to make that easier.
What's great about it: Asks all the right questions, but misses a few
What's not so great: Would like some more explanations

I've been using Turbo Tax since 2007 and have been delighted with the various improvements over the years and the continued ease of use. I recommend to everyone I know.
What's great about it: I was pleased to see the Identity Theft prevention steps.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Tried and true!

This program works well, I have used it for many years. It is sometimes complicated to go from the step by step to the form to actually review what is sent to the IRS. All in all I trust this program and will continue to use it in the future.

Great help when I needed it
on April 18, 2016

Hi,
This year I had an unusual situation where the data automatically transferred from my last return had an error, my error. I received great help in finding the correct way to update the worksheet that was incorrect. Very nice and knowledgeable help.
Improvement suggestions for the program:
1) It could give warnings of possible common issues such as basis reporting forms sent to taxpayers by financial institutions not having the "correct" data for the tool to make the correct calculations, thereby possibly inflating tax liability. The tool should ask you to look into the data behind the form if it is a common or semi common issue. I ran into this last year and had to search very hard to find it.
2) Huge pet peeve, When you put in your HSA contributions the tool does not ask you the simple questions to see if it is taxable, you just enter the number and see the "taxometer" zoom forward. Then, late in the process, the questions are asked and the "taxometer" goes back down. The first year I ran into this I went into the forms trying to correct it, not knowing it would be "fixed" later, wasting a lot of time. It would be more customer friendly if it asked the couple of related questions at the time of entry or assumed the most common situation (not taxable) until the questions were asked and answered.
What's great about it: Good helpdesk
What's not so great: Dislike Late HSA calculations
Pros: I bought or sold investments
