What's great about it: User friendly
What's not so great: You should let your customers know that you charge an extra fee to file their state return on the box.

What happened
on April 18, 2016
Posted by: Jammalg
After I started my state return - NY - I was only shown an amount for a refund/payment and was unable to go through the state via the interview method - as had happened with the Federal form.
Although I could have done the state by editing the form directly at 6 PM on 4/18 I had neither the time nor the will to do so. I just sent the taxes in and will have to review and amend as needed.
I have used Turbo Tax for years and have never had this difficulty with the program.
One other things that occurred - in the Fed program I have entered various mutual fund sales - amounts and basis. The first time was told I made thousands of dollars - totally ignoring basis amounts. I deleted the figures and re-entered everything but this time the basis was taken into account- giving me the correct figures. I have no idea what happened to give me 2 wildly different figures.
What's great about it: Fed was great
What's not so great: State was bad

e-Fileing State Returns
on April 18, 2016
Posted by: 2016TaxFilerVA
By purchasing the TurboTax Premier CD, I thought I was purchasing the e-file option for both the Federal and State income taxes. I was surprised that I had to pay for the state e-file and that the price had gone up $5 from the package printing once I found the small print.
What's great about it: The state tax forms are synced together to ensure you are taxed only once on a taxable event.
What's not so great: I had to pay extra for the state e-file option on Premier Turbo Tax.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Navigatigating through forms
on April 18, 2016
Posted by: pasruck
I have used turbo tax for years and currently prepare my 3 children's taxes as well. Obviously I like it. However, this year I had difficulty moving through the forms. Often if I hit the back button it would take me all the way back to the start of the topic instead of the previous question. Additionally it would skip several questions ahead when the continue button was pressed. This happened quite frequently.
What's great about it: Used Turbo Tax for years
What's not so great: Software seemed slow & unresponsive, skipped ahead or too far back

Oklahoma Capital Gain/Loss Allocation
on April 18, 2016
Posted by: Oktaxes
The State of Oklahoma requires you to indicate whether or not the capital gain/loss was for an Oklahoma company. If you have a number of transactions (I had over 100), you are presented with a list and have to individually provide the Oklahoma city in which the corporation is located or check a box saying "not an Oklahoma based company". You have to go into each transaction and edit it. Once you edit a transaction, it takes you back to the top of the list and doesn't remove the one you just edited. You have to manually keep track of which transactions you have edited and it will not tell you which ones you haven't nor will it let you move forward unless you complete them all or skip it to come back later. It either needs to present you with a worksheet list that you can edit and see all edited transactions or simply remove each entry after it has been edited.
What's great about it: none
What's not so great: Extremely tedious and inefficient and lazy programming
