Made complicated investment entries simple
on April 18, 2016
Posted by: ChrisM57301
This was my first time to have non-IRA investments and was dreading it. I had to upgrade to the premium version but it made everything including Schedule K1 entries easy.
I've had a couple of problems with turbo tax in past years but this year was smooth. Also had two new things: energy efficiency deduction and refinance of my house loan.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Been using TT for more than 15 years. Very easy to use. Computations are accurate. Never have to find a form. Questionnaire is very helpful and provides great guidance.
What's great about it: Easy to Use, Accurate
What's not so great: Need to page thru questionnaire when reviewing sections
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

So Easy to Use My 7 Year Old Could Do It!
on April 18, 2016

This product is amazing. I could not have done my taxes without it. With the new affordable care act, multiple deductions to work through, stock sales, and several sources of income this return was VERY complex. However, with TurboTax I felt no concern at any point throughout. Every item I needed to file became so easy I literally think my 7 year old could have done this. I don't know where I'd be without this product. Actually, on second thought, I know I'd be at the tax accountant's office!
What's great about it: Deductions are easy, stock sales a breeze
What's not so great: Desktop Version asked a few repeat questions after transfering from online version
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Almost great

TT can be a pain, but it's better than the alternatives for complicated returns. Plus; carryover features from previous year, it asks the correct questions. The help section is pretty good, but not too good at figuring out TT issues. The costs for state e-filing and second state are $$$$$$. I went on line and e-filed the second state directly though the state (for free) in under five minutes (mostly administrative). Next year my return will be a lot simpler, and I might just say goodbye to TT. I had tried others in the past and they were worse.
What's great about it: detailed questions, easy walk through, help section (not live)
What's not so great: no live contact, state efile cost excessive, system hang ups are not readily fixed, extra state is $$$$$

Best Turbo Tax Yet
on April 18, 2016

I have been a TT fan for years. Maybe it has finally trained me to be organized. I used It's Deductible all year so, the most time consuming part of my input was ready to be imported. My wife is a part time RE salesperson. I entered all her expenses, but when I ran the review, all the information had not been copied to the form. So I entered it, but then had to review the forms to make sure it hadn't been doubly entered. Golly, that cost me an extra 15 minutes.
What's great about it: Quick, easily understood
What's not so great: Self-employment left me scratching my head

Match this program with Quicken and with import you are done with both federal and state in less than an hour. How great is that.....
What's great about it: Fast, efficient, and accurate
What's not so great: Single rental properties require the premium program
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
