Disappointed at the end

I asked for a review of my return. I had asked for a $55 payment for sales tax for out-of-state purchases. This amount was flagged as a problem that could cause an audit and you recommended I delete it, so I didn't know what else to do. My tax due amount was reduced $55.00. So you caused me to have an error in my return. I gave up and filed it that way.
I'm going to mail my State return in instead of e-filing it. I will look at other software for doing my taxes next year.
What's not so great: Last minute glitch on Wisconsin return

Uncomfortable in Turbo Tax
on April 18, 2016
Posted by: TaxFilerBlue
This is my 3rd year using Turbo Tax and I'm still uncomfortable with it. It wasn't clear to me how to pause my work and resume later. I was successfully clicking "BACK" to go backwards at times until I was in the IRA section and it went back to a "we want to sell you something" page that had no "BACK" button and I got totally frustrated. That's when I wanted to stop and resume later which I finally successfully did but wasn't sure I was doing it right, especially since the computer wouldn't let me save my stuff in the directory that came up and I had to save it elsewhere. It found it when I resumed but it just made me so uncomfortable. I use all the big partner companies yet I was not able to import my W2 or any of my 1099's. I did my taxes by hand up until the last 3 years and I don't find this saves me much time except for having to check my math; but since I had to hand-type my W2, guess I was checking my work there same as if I was doing it by hand. Otherwise, I like the organized fashion in which it ask you questions and the tips it gives you.
What's not so great: It wasn't clear to me how to pause my work and resume. Imports failed to work for me this year.

Simple & Complete

This is the 5th year that I have used this software. I will not switch, as every year flows into the next. I feel comfortable with the review that each form is put thru and feel confident that I have not left anything out.
What's great about it: Everything you need to enter you into the comfort zone while filing taxes.
What's not so great: Honestly cannot find any.

Great product but can be limiting in special cases

I've been using TurboTax for years since MacInTax was introduced (late1990s) and have been extremely satisfied throughout the years. I wouldn't think of preparing my taxes any other way. However, I had a few problems this year. My husband passed away last year and his personal accounts earned income after his date of death. The Form 1099s that I received from the various financial institutions combined the income he earned prior to his death with that earned after his death (this part of his income is considered part of his estate). Trying to prepare my final joint tax return to reflect the info that the IRS wants shown on the tax return presented a number of challenges as a result of the limitations of the TurboTax software. After tech support and tax advice help from Intuit (the CPA from Intuit was great; he sent me a follow up email with more suggestions of how to resolve my problems), we were able to work around most of those limitations but a couple of small problems still remain. If you are in this particular situation (deceased spouse with income earned by your spouse after date of death), be forewarned that using TurboTax could present you with some problems. As much as I hate to say this, it might be better to use a paid preparer with more advanced tax software that permits more complex adjustments for that tax year.
What's great about it: step by step process so don't miss anything
What's not so great: some usage difficulties for my special circumstance
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Functional, but...

After many years of using turbotax (Macintax 1993-1999, and Turbotax 2000-2013), and finding that it seemed to be getting more clunky over the years, last year (tax year 2014) before buying, I read reviews, and almost all of them said that Turbotax was worse than ever, and H&R Block was better. So I bought H&R Block Home, and it was fine. Did my taxes with no major hiccups and all was good. This year, I read the reviews once again, and the general consensus was that Turbotax had "listened" (probably noticed that sales had gone down) and gotten better. So this year I went back to Turbotax. Step one: Import last year's data. NOT! Could NOT get it to work, although the help and forums said it should work from the Fed form PDF. After all these years I had to hand enter all my data again! H&R Block Home was able to import my Turbotax data last year...
What's great about it: Fairly straightforward
What's not so great: Couldn't import last year's return!!!!!!!!

Needs Much Better Mac Support
on April 18, 2016
Posted by: WWboater
Two main deficiencies for Apple OS support: 1. Charities not alphabetized (same complaint as last year) 2. Link to worksheet from each line item is not supported.
My review of TurboTax has been downrated because of this.
What's great about it: Great support, easy to use.
What's not so great: Mac support lacking.
