Step by Step should ask about min rqd IRA wdrawal
on April 18, 2016
Posted by: theOrigjohnfour
Upgraded from Deluxe to Premier specifically because my investments are getting more complicated. This includes the first year we have to make a minimum required withdrawal from my Traditional IRA. You have all the info you need, and the forms are not that complicated. I can't imagine why you would leave this step out.
OBTW: Your demographic survey below should also ask if I'm retired.
What's great about it: As usual, great easy to use prepare and file taxes
What's not so great: Didn't ask if I'd made the minimum required IRA wdrawal
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Saved me thousands of dollars, with piece of mind
on April 18, 2016

I have used TTax every year since I had a dual floppy PC, except twice. Both non-TTax experiences were painful and drawn out. I like the combination of "walk me through the steps" and jump to a particular section, which was very helpful when I received a very late form for filing, The user interface is clean and logical.
Why use a service when all they will do it key in all the data that you collected?
TTax even worked with my living trust.
What's great about it: Extremely detailed review, auto-import of 2014, has ALL forms
What's not so great: Had to step up up a versionagain to include my investments
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Creating an Account was the Biggest Hassle
on April 18, 2016
Posted by: TutuE
While trying to create an account, the advice module kept popping up to tell me to create a password that was not one I'd used before. This was the case even when I typed in a random series of words. What it meant was that I needed to add a symbol of some sort. You need to have a pop-up that actually says so.
What's great about it: Steps were easy
What's not so great: Insufficient advice on the accounts page
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved

2015 TT crashed a few times
on April 18, 2016
Posted by: PaulHotdog
This is the first time I have to used TT to file a 1031 exchange. I found the instructions were not up to the usual turbo tax standard. I have to read multiple on-demand guides and read a lot of direction online before figuring out how to do it.
The program also crashed multiple times and had to re-enter the data even after attempting to recover the file. This was very annoying since I didn't know what data was lost and have to recheck everything.....I have been using TT for many years, this is the first time I have stability issue.
Hope this helps.
Paul
What's great about it: nice switch between form and step by step
What's not so great: it crashed multiple times and 1031 exchange instruction was not clear
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Great software!!

Worked great when I was doing my own return, but it directed me to file a separate return for my daughter. While I was answering the questions for her return, it prompted me that I could file her under my return. Why did it not ask me the follow up question when I was completing my return?
What's great about it: Step by step instructions
What's not so great: conflicted in some of the instructions
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Some Glitches, But GREAT Tech Support
on April 18, 2016
Posted by: AnnFH
Had a new problem with 2015 applications. This year, the application wasn't able to recognize Home and Business version after I worked on my son's Permier version. BUT tech support helped me through this (I had done this in previous years with no problem). Other than that, it's a great application and easy to use.
What's great about it: Great Tech Support
What's not so great: Glitches to 2015

Not friendly for mailing state forms
on April 18, 2016
Posted by: gingerrests
As stated, have to jump through hoops to file state return by mail after federal return e filed. Cost to e file is outrageous for state return considering small refund. Trying to complete this review is even more difficult.
What's great about it: 'Relatively easy except for stated issue"
What's not so great: Extremely difficult to figure out how to mail state return when federal return e filed.

Can't follow the rabbit trail
on April 18, 2016
Posted by: BrightWoman
I like using Turbo Tax for the most part, but I would like it better if it would show you just where the numbers come from. There is no trail, or not one that I've been able to see, that leads from where an entry is to where it winds up on the tax return. I often have to print it all out, with all the worksheets, to understand my return, but even then there are parts that are not clear.
What's great about it: Imports items from our brokers, does the math, accurate
What's not so great: Can't follow all the transactions, I want to understand it all but it is not clear where some numbers have come from;
