Filing extension sucks
on April 18, 2016
Posted by: panamintjim
I have spent nearly 2 hours trying to e-file my extension form. Turbo tax wanted my to input mine and my wife's drivers license number. Do you realize that with my social security number on the tax form and my drives licence on my turbo tax form I am so open to being hacked. Why can't submitting the extension be simple. At this time I do not know if the extension was sent or not. This was a terrible experience.
What's great about it: easy to fill out
What's not so great: Have no idea if extension went through

Easy to install and run from year to year. Easy to review prior year for details or questions when doing new year taxes. Customer service even helped wit question on moving prior year files to new computer so no data was lost.
What's great about it: Consistant YR to YR results
What's not so great: No dislikes with the product
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Better than Block
on April 18, 2016

I've used Block for years and never felt completely confident my returns were correct. Turbo tax is clearly a step up. But E-filing a state return should be free.
What's great about it: Confident returns are correct
What's not so great: Hidden fee at end to file state tax

arduous ordeal

only get two stars due to the repeating loop problem.
What's great about it: went through all the categories well.
What's not so great: had repeating loop to verify the tax return. this is very irritating.

Instead of saying fill out this slot, the slot should be shown with the whole form. I spent quite a while trying to find the forms that the slots were on. it's like taking something out of context and I didn't have any idea where the "corrections" were occurring.
What's great about it: relatively easy to use
What's not so great: error checks should state the form an error is on

Family Friendly
on April 18, 2016

TurboTax is full of terrific features. The main one is maneuverability. It is easy to move between question/answer and the tax forms. That is great if you did taxes by pencil and paper in the old days. Also, TurboTax makes sure you don't miss anything by allowing you to cover all your bases. You can choose the topics to work on or go through all of the topics.
TurboTax is user friendly. I think just about anyone would have no trouble using this program.
What's great about it: Able to complete taxes for myself and 4 family members
What's not so great: Program needs comedy for fun while doing taxes...

Great product upgrade again
on April 18, 2016
Posted by: SpawnOfHoppy
A great product as always and comes with added feature-function each edition since early '90s when I first started doing mine/others taxes. Continue to enjoy the ability to import-review-eSign&File returns throughout the year as new forms & tax laws come into effect. Processes for accurately amending prior returns with updated forms & rules is working very well.
What's great about it: True to the TurboTax format with key feature/upgrade implementation
What's not so great: Functionality: None for 2015 edition; Performance: Delayed/hung post-install first startup (reboot to resolve)
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Difficulties
on April 18, 2016

I've been using turbotax to file my taxes for more than 20 years. Next year I think I'll get someone else to do it for me.
It was very difficult to enter sales of stock options and RSUs that were already reported by turbotax. I spent almost a whole day trying to get the information right. I imported information from my broker, but it was not very easy to edit what I imported. At some point, that information disappeared from the step-by-step view, so I thought I had to enter it again, but it was still in the system so turbotax was double-counting my information.
Schedule K-1s were also very difficult to enter for the state. Maybe it's the form itself, but turbotax didn't help much.
What's great about it: Transfer from previous year, import capability
What's not so great: Not easy to use when you have investment sales
Pros: I bought or sold investments
