Completing Taxes with Confidence!

What's great about it: I love that Turbo Tax imports most info from my previous year's return and provides the year to year comparison.
What's not so great: Turbo Tax doesn't seem to have a good handle on Carryovers from the previous year so I have to manually check.

My Use of Turbo Tax

This is the way I have filed for over twenty years. I have yet to encounter a problem. TT is like having your own private tax accountant at a very affordable cost.
What's great about it: Detailed and holds your handt hru out the filing process
What's not so great: very dependent on internet connections
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Abysmal Mil Family Experience

I've used TurboTax for probably 10 years. I've always found it easy to use until this year.
I married a military member that is a resident of another state. The instructions provided by TurboTax for preparing a joint federal and separate state returns were abysmal.
I'm an attorney and I have a degree in finance. I'm quite comfortable with taxes and tax law. Yet, I was uncomfortable with the TurboTax process.
TurboTax waited until the last seconds of the process to tell me that I would have to start all over and prepare two more "mock" returns in order to prepare our state taxes.
I purchased advanced software and now I'm being instructed to manually manipulate it to accommodate a filing status that the programmers clearly did not account for. The instructions were unclear and lacking when it came to which documents to print and file, along with itemization vs. standard deductions on the individual state returns.
This will be my last year with TurboTax. It's simply not worth the frustration or uncertainty.
What's great about it: Nice Refund
What's not so great: Convoluted instructions for spouses in different states

Difficult Process

I've used Turbotax for a long time. Lately, due to more complex taxes due to investments and itemized medical deductions, my returns take a long time. Turbotax keeps me on track in the complexity, but it still isn't easy. Sure wish state taxes could be efiled for free
What's great about it: Some confidence that I have covered all of the bases.
What's not so great: Process is lengthy due to many deductions. Medical deductions section could be made easier.
