Turbo Tax makes doing taxes more tolerable

This customer did not provide a text review.
What's great about it: Very nice that info carries over from year to year, appreciate that we can select a topic to work on
What's not so great: Difficult to go back and review what you have done - ie having to re-answer questions again

Continues to make filing my own tax return doable.

I continue to be impressed by how relatively easy it is to use TurboTax. It saves me money from when I used an accountant and allows me to better manage what gets entered.
What's great about it: It's Deductible is awesome. I would never be able to do it without this program.
What's not so great: It's not easy to compare last year with this year in detail.

Painless!

All in all, I had a good experience. TurboTax did not, however, tell me the standard deduction amount for age 65. It would have been easy to add this info as an inset box like so many other pieces of info.
What's great about it: Easy to follow instructions
Pros: I bought or sold investments

I have used TT for decades, so am obviously generally satisfied with it. However, I believe in 2014 TT changed the File menu choices, eliminating "Save as" and adding "Duplicate" and "Rename." This change only occurred on the Mac, not the PC. In fact, a special set of online TT directions for Minnesota's nonconformance with late federal law changes still tells the user to execute a "Save as." The Mac OS X still uses "Save as." I find this change therefore inconsistent and confusing. When I called the TT Help line last year, the specialist was unaware of the change and how to deal with it.
Sometimes, if I go back to a previously completed section of the interview to make a change ("Edit"), for example stock sales, after I have completed the selected section and hit "Done", TT does not take me back to where I previously left the interview. Rather, it goes to the next section that follows the edited one.
I don't know if TT has control over the Print dialog box, but it would be nice to be able to enlarge the items to be printed so as to see what TT has chosen and to be able to have more control over what pages are printed than a single range.
I don't understand why TT asks me to decide if it needs to calculate federal AMT, when it already has all my info.

Turbo Tax: Redemption At Last!
on April 18, 2016
Posted by: Elliott63
Last year was such a "hair tearing out" experience, I vowed I wouldn't use Turbo Tax EVER again! But the choices are slim when doing my complicated taxes online so I reluctantly went with TT again.
OMG! I don't know if it was ME or YOU, but ONE OF US just CRUSHED this return in record time! I'm going to give the props to Turbo Tax for MAYBE listening to complaints from last year. If it weren't midnight, I'd go outside and howl, "WOO HOO!" PLEASE don't change anything you don't have to for next year. I put doing my taxes on the same list as cleaning out the gutters, but this was almost a pleasant event.. I will be telling anyone who will listen to me about how smooth and easy this experience was.
What's great about it: Loved the "hand holding" throughout
What's not so great: none
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Its a great product; been using it for many years now; this year for some reason felt that latency was high; could be the last min rush traffic (e-filed my taxes 4/17 @ 9:57pm PDT :)); will be a customer next year as well, thanks!
What's great about it: comprehensive
What's not so great: latency

It's Done and Reasonably Painless
on April 18, 2016

I have used Turbo Tax for at least 2 decades. Following the step-by-step Assistant to enter the required data is easy and Turbo provides a running total of what taxes are owed. The only area that always leaves me uncertain is the worksheet for determining Quarterly Estimates. I believe Turbo could be improved in this area by providing education about how the previous years values are determined. Then, I would know better how to project the new year's values.
What's great about it: The Step-by-Step Assistant helps me stay on track and enter information in an orderly manner.
What's not so great: Never sure about how to complete the worksheet for determining Quarterly Estimates.
