This was the first time I had used it for eFiling purposes and I found the guidance very helpful. It made my filing a breeze.
What's great about it: Ease of use. User friendly instructions and questions.
What's not so great: None

Program was clunky this year
on April 17, 2016

This year's version was clear as MUD re: whether my health insurance premiums were tax deductible. I grew so frustrated with the process that I'm pretty sure that I surrendered over $1,000 paid in on health insurance premiums because the program was that poor at addressing the issue this year. The program also needs vast improvement for those of us that contribute to a traditional or non-deductible IRA and then roll it over to a Roth IRA the following year. It wouldn't let me put in both my 1099-R from my previous year's rollover AND my current year's contribution. I thought the software reconciled them both after it imported the document from my brokerage account, but it was absent on my federal form. aarrgghh
What's great about it: cheap
What's not so great: little help on health insurance and retirement accounts

On the federal return you claim the amount of property taxes paid for the tax year. That number is transferred to the state return. However, you can only claim the taxes you were assessed in the tax year. This causes a problem when doing your state taxes. The question should be asked in the state return and not transferred from the federal.

The software works very nicely buy for anything beyond the basic and deluxe it starts getting expensive enough that I was considering paying a chunk more and getting a preparer to do it.
What's great about it: Easy to use, fast, accurate
What's not so great: it is expensive

2015 TurboTax Review
on April 17, 2016

I use TurboTax every year but it has one consistent very annoying problem. In sections where I enter my UserID and Password to download banking information, TurboTax does NOT let me copy/paste my password. It's been like this for too many several years.
We are encouraged to use LONG complex passwords everywhere we go but in TurboTax we are forced to MANUALLY type in that long complex password. If mistyped too many times TurboTax ends up locking out the bank account.
What's more, as we type the password in the TurboTax form there is no way to verify it's correct because all we see is ***** as we type it. If someone has a keylogger installed, it records key strokes so copy/paste if safer.
If you want to make TurboTax better, PLEASE LET USERS COPY/PASTE PASSWORDS into the TurboTax Forms. I've requested this over the last couple years but apparently I'm not being heard. Other people in the TurboTax forum have made the same request/complaint.
Thank you!
What's great about it: Easy to use

Got me through it again

I used Premier because of one off items I had to include besides the financial investments to deal with. A couple of screens did not have Help buttons or clickable explanations to guide me while in the financial weeds. I was able to work through it though.
The best part was contacting Intuit Customer service because of an error that popped up during my purchase of an eFile for a state filing. I received two messages on my cell phone that my credit card was used twice for the transaction price. I called, had a short wait, I could understand everything the person was saying, was very pleasant and they were able to check and reassure me I was not charged twice, best customer service call I have had in a really long time.
What's great about it: found most of my questions and stumbling points with Search, Help and 800-4INTUIT
What's not so great: a couple of screens did not have help and left me trying to figure out what was needed
Pros: I bought or sold investments, I moved

Ten Years of Turbo Tax
on April 17, 2016

I used Turbo Tax for the first time in 2005 after a friend pressured me to try it. I've been sold on it ever since. The program is much faster than figuring out the taxes and figuring out the tax law manually. When you're done, the finished tax filing is ready to E-File and print. all is completely filled out. The files are saved on your computer and you can save a PDF copy too. Only complaint I ran into for the first time this year is that if you need to open a previous year tax file, you need that years version of Turbo Tax to open the file or you're out of luck. Fortunately, I have all my copies dating back to 2005. All in all, Turbo Tax is a big winner, saving time and money and I've learned to trust the results over the years.
What's great about it: Interview process is a great help. Completed forms are ready to print
What's not so great: Sometimes Turbo Tax does not have the answer. I look it up myself
