another year completed

Easy to use but state filing charges are excessive, my state (Ohio) allows for free filing online....
What's great about it: step by step easy to use and import data from last year
What's not so great: watch for extra charges, especially filing charges, extra charges if you have fees taken from refund etc.. etc.. .
Pros: I bought or sold investments

I take screen shots of the year vs year comparison pages. It would be useful if TurboTax provided the option to save PDFs of those pages

Consistent as Always
on April 17, 2016

Good and consistent as always and easy to use. Every year there seems to be some things that are new In this case, question regarding teacher deductions for materials and supplies were well answered. On the con side, I didn't see anything regarding deductions regarding hours of volunteer work for charitable organizations and how that is treated in the tax code. Some relatives and acquaintances say such time is deductible.
That said, TurboTax still beats making appointments and sending paperwork to a CPA or tax preparer.
What's great about it: Software is always easy to follow step by step.
What's not so great: There are sometimes specific items that don't seem to be addressed.

Good Year - TurboTax was flawless
on April 17, 2016

TurboTax fixed the problem with showing unable to eFile error after State eFile payment had been completed. This year was flawless. Used for Joint return, 2 kids, and father-in-law. No problems
What's great about it: New stuff to file this year (K-!, 1099-Rs, etc.)
What's not so great: None to be noted

good refund but ...

Here in the southern plains a lot of us have small cattle and farming operations. The program could be stronger in explaining different reasons for specific information. Installing fence is common, and where to put this expense either as long term depreciable asset or expense the cost wasn't as clear as it should be. The number of "clicks" required to put in each individual cow for depreciation was cumbersome, luckily I only bought 11 this year.
What's great about it: easy switch to see form
What's not so great: discovering why there was no depreciation schedule when I knew there should be one

Very good program that makes tax season tolerable

I've used Turbo Tax for a number of years and find it very helpful. Except for the challenges of entering data off of a confusing Schedule K-1 that I've received the last couple of years, the rest of the data was easy to enter. I sold the stock in the LP company from whom I got the K-1 so I won't have that challenge next year.
What's great about it: Love the step by step instructions
What's not so great: Found entering data from Schedule K-1 difficult
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Has difficulty with Americorps tax reporting
on April 17, 2016

Turbotax has difficulty handling 10099-MISC for student awards and had to do it in convoluted way based on on-line message board.
Unfortunately some of the W-2s provided by federal agencies like Americorps VISTA are incomplete. For example, they did not include Employer state ID or income for that matter. Turbotax wasted so much of my time trying to figure out a way to handle that.
The amount charged to e-file a state return is way too much.
The amount charged to add one more state is also too much.
After the fact I bought Turbotax Premier, the charges to e-file or to add one more state is way too much.
What's great about it: Step by step walkthtough
What's not so great: Some of the questions and explanations are very confusing

Great software, better than "H&R Not", explanations are easy to follow and level of tax knowledge needed by user is minimal.
What's great about it: Easy
What's not so great: re-tracing an isue
