What a nightmare!

For the most part, Turbotax helps to make sure all income and deductions are covered. But his year was my first year to report royalty income and with Turbotax it was pure torture. Instuctions are awful, I had to call a CPA to get advice. Then it turns out anytime you review the topic it doubles your income, then even though you have a Schedule E already filled out, the review insists you have an error and won't let you e-file. When you follow that trail, and double click on schedule E or C, it duplicates your income and there is no manual override. Most annoying is that I saw this problem has been in previous years. I spent many hours before I came up with a personal workaround. So I spent a LOT more time this year pouring over my entire return before filing to make sure there no other errors in the way Turbotax calculates things. So don't blindly cruise through the questions and forms. Review all entries very carefully.
What's great about it: Generally helped to ensure all topics were covered
What's not so great: Miscalculates 1099 MISC inccome and duplicates schedule E

INCOME TAX FILING

As usual, use of TurboTax was a no brainer. No issues with the software. Definitely will use again next tax season.

2015 adoption year

Great product for me, I have a rental property and I had adoption credit to apply this year. Some of the credit will roll over to next year when I use Turbo Tax again.
What's great about it: reliable tax assistance, needed adoption tax credit assistance this year
What's not so great: filing path was a little confusing when E-filing Federal and mailing State returns.

Helped me file in 3 states!!

This is the first year that I filed in several states for multi-state reporting. I travel alot and work in various states. My company sends multiple W2s for each state. It would help if you ask questions on the w-2 entry splash page that asks if the user worked in other states and received multiple
w2s for the same company. Really they should all be added on the one W2. I figured it out and deleted the other W2s but it took alot of time to do so.

Also there was not alot of explanation of how much in tuition expenses should be applied to the American Opportunity Credit. While for one of my students the amount pre-populated there was no explanation as to what the strategy was. I had to seek IRS guidelines to figure it out.

Have always liked TURBO TAX and have been using it almost since it first came out.

Turbo Tax 2015 - Some improvements

Overall, still provides the same easy to use interface of 2014. I appreciated the new handling of IRA to Roth IRA, definitely an improvement over prior years.
California tax - there's not as much help provided as federal. I understand it's a lot harder to provide details on 50 states vs. 1 federal but I'd still like to see this section beefed up, especially the areas around K-1s
What's great about it: Easy to use, improved the handling of IRA to Roth IRA conversions
What's not so great: Need more help on California tax topics
