No Refund, But I Think I'm Done
on April 17, 2016

My taxes aren't too complicated, but a little more complicated than a 1040-EZ will accommodate. I've relied on professionals for a number of years now (they were a lot more complicated a bunch of years back), but thought it was time to just do them on my own. After completing them, it's obvious I needed a software product like TurboTax to ensure I did them right.
What's great about it: The question/answer format; price vs. tax pro
What's not so great: Some confusion

State Filing

You said Premium gets one free state return yet you want to charge to efile it. That is wrong. Free means free for whole return, just not a portion of the process.
What's not so great: Charging to e-file state return

Turbo Tax Really tells it truthfully

When I was going through my tax forms, I kept having questions about WHY I wouldn't get the deduction I was hoping for, Turbo Tax's little blue links throughout the program will let you know, In my case, I make too much money. The government won't give you any deductions for a lot of things like mortgage insurance, or Tuition for college. This really sucks, but the info is there right now when you want to know.

Smooth & Easy
on April 17, 2016

I hate doing my taxes every year - I'm self-employed and have to pay, so it's done at the last minute and I don't need any surprises. None this year - smooth as silk! Thank you.
What's great about it: No confusion, no hitches
What's not so great: No problems this year - thank you

Gets harder each year
on April 17, 2016

The Fix your errors section doesn't correlate with K-1 entries. even when you enter the right amount it keeps coming up as an error....had to delete the entire entry and start over. Then it takes. Last year I had one....this year I had 4.
What's great about it: Great for simple taxes
What's not so great: Very poor when you have K-1s, etc..

Makes Tax Day Easy
on April 17, 2016

I have been using turbo tax for years -- I get fast accurate results in a short time and save tons of money over a cpa
What's great about it: step by step questions that walk you through your return
What's not so great: occasionally options available are not easy to answer

Mostly Happy
on April 17, 2016

There were a couple of instances when I was searching for further explanation, e.g, for stolen property. It seemed to make sense that since the property was purchased just months before the FMV would have remained the same. Did you mean it was zero because the property is gone?
Ok, another example is the question below about kids... yes, we have kids because we are really, really old they do not live with us so, was the correct answer YES?
What's great about it: The software was easy to use and the checking feature was also hellpful
What's not so great: Not being able to readily see responses from previous year to help jog memory and not fully explainging terms - FMV

Flawed software - will never use again
on April 17, 2016

This is the worst software experience of my life. If I had not reviewed the forms before efiling I would be headed for an IRS audit. This piece of garbage added additional cap gains and losses and there was no way for me to go back and redo this. I am left printing out everything and redoing my cap gains and my 1040 by hand. I will need to file an extension so that I can go bak and do manual corrections. Of course, this also screws up my state tax filing.
I tried repeatedly to open up the cap gains section but it only shows me the information for forms a b d and e. The problem is that turbotax also decided to duplicate (with different cost basis) some of the cap gains/losses on forms c and f and I can find no way to eliminate these forms and recalculate.
The "we're here 24/7" software help was useless.
I have always done my taxes by hand and it has taken me less time than using turbotax AND I was successful when I did it by hand.
What's great about it: filled out MLP related forms
What's not so great: Incorrectly added cap gains, hard to get the forms out of the system, never even printed state forms
