Turbo Tax Software

Love the software, every-year it seems you get better at anticipating issues and correct them before i see them. Flawless.
What's great about it: All pros, dependable year after year
What's not so great: none
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Three Good Years, but this Fourth On Was Difficult

After filing with TurboTax for 3 years, I did not anticipate any problems, but this year was filled with snags and delays.
TurboTax Premier 2015 would not load onto my MacBook Pro (Yosemite/ Safari) Unsuccessfully, I tried the (online) recommended patch, and thenI finally telephoned for support.(The phone representatives are wonderful! ) Becca was not familiar with Macs, so when she could not guide me, she transferred me to the Mac division and to Kenny, who is a Mac Guru! Kenny knew exactly how to load the program, but it took the good part of 2 hours to achieve this.

Once the program opened, it was easy to enter the information, but after I came back from taking a break, I found that the program had not saved my work! I thought this must be my fault, so I retyped all of my information and when I stopped the next time, I made sure to follow TurboTax directions to save. Unfortunately, when I returned to work, the forms were blank! I did not want to take time for another phone call, so, until I finished, I kept the program open - on my desktop- and I did not close or shut down my computer until the taxes were completed and the forms were backed up. (I made a pdf and also printed them, just in case)
I am hoping that these problems will be solved by 2016.
What's great about it: Saves time! Easy to follow directions . Does all the Worksheets for you. Asks about overlooked deductions.
What's not so great: Disc program would not load on my Mac. Program did not save my work.

What's not so great: It would be nice to see a breakdown of where the Federal Withholdings come from. Same as you do with income.

Very Efficient & User Friendly

Gets the job done will minimal fuss or frustration. Makes sure you have all the forms that you need for filing.
What's great about it: Easy Navigation
What's not so great: Was not able to see previous year entries next to current year when entering current year info.

better than ever, but

I've used TurboTax for many years. It has steadily gotten easier to use, and I wouldn't use any other tax software. This year it seemed a bit more difficult to go to forms which I may not have needed, just to take a look. Maybe that's a dumbing down. I don't know. But I don't need to be guided for everything, and I felt the program really wanted me to be.
What's great about it: ease of use, accuracy
What's not so great: not being able to efile federal and mail in state return

not up to last year

The last 2 years my returns were more complicated yet I sailed through them with TT. This year, there were questions with no helpful explanations. The use of It's Deductible was so terrible, hanging up many times. I have been a TT user and It's Deductible user for too many years to count, but I may not be next year.
What's great about it: You can get it done yourself
What's not so great: Left me hanging without a decent explanation several times

Simple and Nearly Great

The extra marketing while helping my 17 year old child file taxes was unnecessary. For mine, the fact that it tries to force me to print a paper copy to file the state return vs allow me to indicate it isn't needed was a miss

Handles the Tough Stuff with Ease

Overall, Turbo Tax Premier is a very fine tax package. The conversational/ questionnaire format and features/ updates related to investments, health care reform, and partnerships are very well done . However, there are some slightly annoying things as well :
(1) Each time you save your previous work and come back to Turbo Taxt at later time, the program asks you to re-enter name, address, etc.
(2) The sub-categories in section T for Master Limited Partnerships (form K1) did not match up well with the forms that I received for oil and gas partnerships.
(3) It seems like the purchase price could also include the cost of one state e-filing in addition to the Federal return. However, if more than one state form is required, I would say that additional charges would be justified.
