GERRRRRATE

Using Michigan's form 4884 to get TOTAL RETIREMENT & BENEFITS SUBTRACTION is not automatic. For the last 3 years I have had to go find this form so that I could take advantage of this subtraction. I understand that this is available to those of us who are over a certain age. The state program needs to ask the question about age.
What's great about it: A great program, I've used it for years.
What's not so great: The treatment of pensions in the state of Michigan

Beats 'em all!

The most difficult part was downloading the tax program. Once I got past that, everything flowed quite smoothly and very speedily. The program speed is really impressive. I never considered it bad but data just snapped at me. From the past, it seemed to flow more readily or I got used to TurboTax. Great job.
What's great about it: fast, very fast - easier that last year - great hints
What's not so great: Could not get to my sign in page for program download.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Makes It Easy

I receive so many forms from various institutions labeled "Important Tax Documents," and inevitably when I come to the end of my return I have some left over. Right there, built into TurboTax is the question asking whether or not I have forms left over that I have not used. It helped me know whether I needed to do anything with them. It get's better every year at anticipating what I need to make tax filing simple.
What's great about it: Explains left over forms
Pros: I bought or sold investments

An even smoother year!

It went well again this year. Of course I'm used to the interface (thanks for not changing it, and for having thought it out so well so well from the beginning, and adapting as MacOS has changed. The program acts predictably and intelligently, which is a credit to the designers and programmers and numbers folks who have to keep the software caught up with tax acts.
What's great about it: Progress went _very_ smoothly
What's not so great: some "dumb" questions (to the non-pro) were harder to find answers to

Frustrating

Past experience was all positive. This year a disaster. First Schedule D with wash sales etc did not import from Fidelity in a way that automatically gave correct answers so I had to struggle with every single transaction as if I was doing this manually. I gave up when I got within $9 of the right answer. Attempting to pay for Audit defense never succeeded and blocked paying to file. Had to reinstall and even then it only worked when I deleted audit defense. Everything else went as expected but these two issues took days to resolve.
What's great about it: What works works well
What's not so great: What doesn't work takes hours to resolve
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments, I moved
