If you want to do your own taxes...

I dread this time of year. Even if I know I am getting a refund, which this year I did not. I've never gone to an accountant or tax specialist. I've always done it myself. Before TurboTax, I used long forms and manual calculations, Fed, State, and yes local. If you're not from New York, the local income tax might sound absurd. Well it is, but that doesn't make it any less true. Anyway, if you're the guy who has to do it yourself (like me), TurboTax will help you get through it. I don't know how they do it, but taxes get worse every year, and TurboTax gets better.
What's great about it: Quick, easy, convenient, helpful
What's not so great: Don't like how complicated the tax code is. Certainly not Intuit's fault.

W2 employer address out of country

The employer's address on the W2 was in Ontario, Canada.
Turbo tax would not allow the postal code L4V 1T4 because it has letters and is not in a format matching the "state" which is "ON" in the address.

This prevented the e-filing from allowing the form to be sent. I had to put the last part of the address in the "address" field and then pick a US matching state and zip code to transmit the file.
What's not so great: Postal code not accepted in foreign postal code format.

What's not so great: Would be nice if there was more guidance to how to verify/complete energy credit info required by the IRS

Schedule D Problems

The 8949 boxes for entering each transaction were easy to use, except when 4 of the boxes would not accept data without staying pink (error indication) plus would not summarize at the bottom with a net transaction amount. I had to devise a false transaction for each faulty box in order to file my return because otherwise it had "errors" and would not be accepted for filing.

What's not so great: Horrible, multi-day, disaster trying to get through Form 8949

What's not so great: For price, I'd expect ability to talk to someone directly
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments
