Ease of Use - Peace of Mind

Long time Turbo Tax user, impressed with annual ease-of-use improvements & features, and confidence that I've entered information correctly and in the right place / on the right form.
What's great about it: It's just the "Total Package" - takes away complexity of filing
What's not so great: Want screen print -- print just what's on the screen only

Pretty good this year

I've used TurboTax for about 22 years. This is probably the easiest version that I've used. Pretty quick, easy to use, and very detailed. I was able to import several documents from the Web, which speed-ed up the process. I was not looking forward to doing taxes this year, but after I got started, it was pretty easy. I like the Q&A process in which TurboTax asks easy to understand questions to find as many deductions as possible. I hope that future versions will include audible questions and answers, sort of like automated phone systems.
What's great about it: Quick, efficient, detailed
What's not so great: Cost to efile state return, added cost if I want to pay for efiling state return from my refund

Why pay a preparer?

Sure beats the old days of paper, paper -- oh, and more paper. Now, if only the tax system itself could go back to its less-bloated past.
What's great about it: Staying organized
What's not so great: Cost of state e-filing
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Better than my CPA!

I dread tax time due to numerous schedules for our income properties. We used to pay our CPA a lot more to do our taxes. After he retired, we decided to do our own taxes with the help of Turbo Tax. I'm so glad that we did.
What's great about it: Easy to Follow. Turbo Tax made filing a breeze.

TurboTax Is Not Getting Any Better

After completing income from another state TurboTax still asks me in a later step "Did you have income from another state". What's the point of using a computer program ?
What's great about it: Covers many tax topics (deductions and credits) I would miss.
What's not so great: Is not fully automated. Still a very manual.

2015 Filing

Turbo Tax is easy and thorough. I don't know why anyone would pay for tax preparation. After you pull together all of the documentation you need to give a tax person, you have done the hard part, so why not just plug the information into Turbo Tax and be done. The only con is that State E Filing is too expensive.

Section 179 and Special Depreciation is not handled well. For Section 179 Expense, it should look to your business income and inform you that you may be exceeding the limit. Special depreciation can be opted out, but only by class...which the program doesn't compare. It almost resulted in an error on my return.
Otherwise, superior product.
What's great about it: easy to use, mostly acurate
What's not so great: Doesn't handle and explain Section 179 expense and special depreciation well
Pros: I bought or sold investments
