Generally disappointing, but no other real options

It works. It's worth paying extra to have to software on your computer - the web based approach is less secure and does not allow you to go back and recalculate as you need to do, manually, if you are subject to AMT as more and more people are.
What's great about it: Imports data from earlier turbo tax returns
What's not so great: Does not help at all with AMT calculations, makes mistakes importing data

STILL GREAT

HAVE USED FOR MANY YEARS. I'M RETIRED AND NOT IN A HURRY - JUST WANT TO GET IT RIGHT. SO THE "SAVE" AND "CONTINUE WHERE YOU LEFT OFF" IS APPRECIATED.
EASE OF FILING MAKES ME APPRECIATE THE ELECTRONIC HANDSHAKE TURBO TAX HAS WITH THE IRS AND STATES.
DO NOT LOOK FORWARD TO TAXES NEXT YEAR BUT DO LOOK FORWARD TO NEXT YEARS TURBOTAX!
What's great about it: EASY, DETAILED, SAVES THEN CONTINUES LATER

great program

i do not like having to go all the way through the process a second time if you want to check a number. example would be inputting the income information from 1099 R forms. if you want to check after you input it, you have to go all the way thru questions you have already answered. also you need more partner download partners. TIAA, a huge pension company is not a partner, thus leading to possible mistakes entering data
What's great about it: turbo tax is a great tool. walks you thru the program, leaving little to chance
What's not so great: too little information on the state process

TurboTax Has Started Adding On to Its Costs
on April 14, 2016

Absolutely no reason for the new fees that TurboTax has added on. They increase the costs of using the software by more than 50%.
What's great about it: Exhaustive, accurate, tried and true interface
What's not so great: New Fees to E-File Significantly Increase Costs

I recommend Turbo Tax

I have used Turbo Tax for several years. This year I found under the Forms tab a comparison of my return from previous years. That was very helpful and alerted me to the fact that I had claimed a higher rental income the previous year. I will definitely use that comparison form in the future.
What's great about it: Takes you through filing step by step. Has form that compare previous returns. Help site is great.
What's not so great: no cons

Grateful to use Turbotax

When preparing Form 8949 Part I Check Boxes A, B, and C the tax preparer is instructed in the “Specific Instructions” section on pages 2 and 3 of Federal Form 8949 Instructions to use a separate page for each Check Box. When preparing Form 8949 Part II Check Boxes D, E, and F the tax preparer is instructed to use a separate page for each Check Box. For data entry in Part II I used a separate page for Check Box D, but I was unable to start a new page for Check Box E. So, I entered the data for Check Box E on the same page for data entered for Check Box D. Then I had to change a No to a Yes to get around the error entry for data in Check Boxes D and E being entered on the same page. This cleared a claim for the error entry that came up during the tax report review. I ask you to incorporate the Federal Form 8949 Instructions in a change to your software for 2016 taxes.
What's great about it: The choice of words make instructions clear
