2015 TurboTax Experience
on April 14, 2016
Posted by: JerryM48198
I put off working on my 2015 taxes until 4/7/16 because I had not been feeling the greatest for the last two months. OK, so I pressed on and started working on the taxes. I was pleasantly surprised at the ease of importing data from my broker. I generated a lot of trading data, so this was a great feature. In the past I've had to do this by hand and it's not fun.
I was really frustrated when I got to the K1 section for a couple of reasons: -The instructions are not always clear. -The fine folks at the support desk are limited in what they can say about how to solve problems. -In some cases, TT wants you to create additional K1 forms for the same company without giving examples or really clear instructions. -Intuit could have written the TT software so that the user could create duplicate K1's from the existing ones and then let the user change the appropriate lines in the K1's to meet the TT software requirements, rather than re-creating them from scratch multiple times. -TT should highlight (color code) the boxes that need to be on separate K1's as this would have helped me immensely and reduced my errors and frustration! -Sometimes TT would ask for data to be entered on the K1 that's not on the K1 supplied by the General Partner, during the error check. That was extremely frustrating.
Grace and Peace, jrm
What's great about it: It saved me time by importing most of my data
What's not so great: It didn't do so well with the K1 forms
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Easy to use turbotax
on April 14, 2016
Posted by: CHOTHEAK
As mentioned under Cons, I saw a different figure in the box other than the real State refund amount although it printed the amount correctly on the forms.
What's great about it: It is easy to use and do not have to have much of any tax knowledge. I like the program and will continue to use it.
What's not so great: Prior to printing I just noticed a different refund amount other than what was really my state refund amount.

Not Same as Last year
on April 14, 2016
Posted by: OldTown5
I thought last year Turbo Tax was going to revert back to all the items included in the Deluxe addition of 2013. Could not find that this was true, so had to once again buy the Premiere addition. Would not transfer my 2014 tax program on Turbo Tax, and I checked with other family members using this product and they had the same problem. Had to again reenter all my information again taking significantly longer to complete the taxes. If I have to do this, I may as well try a different tax program. Disappoiunted in Turbo Tax now for the second year in a row.
What's great about it: ease of entry
What's not so great: Would not transfer last years Turbo Tax, had to reenter everything. No reminder update downloads
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Blank and '0.00' is same

The Software does not know in some cases that $0.00 is as good as blanks, it forced me in some forms to go back and change to blanks :-(, otherwise ok.

Turbo Tax is easy to use if you have saved your years data needed for input. I have a K-1 and I have to wait until at least March 15 to get that data. Otherwise I could do my Federal Tax earlier.
What's great about it: Very Good product
What's not so great: None

TurboTax Premier 2015
on April 14, 2016

Current version of TurboTax Premier seems not to be as robust as past ones, and on more than one occasion it would not execute calculations. I had to quit the application (running on a 2-year-old MacBook) and restart it. Luckily, data was saved. The biggest problem I had was with the Health section and HSA information. I completed an initial return, printed it, and found I needed to make a couple of minor changes in Charitable Contributions. Once I went through to the end again, the amounts I owed federal and state had increased by several hundred dollars. I found that in the second session, the HSA data was changed, although I had not returned to make any amendments in those fields. Weird, and most disconcerting. It took me 2 hours to figure out how to fix it. But I have survived another tax season, and I will no doubt buy TurboTax in 2017.
What's great about it: Familiarity as return user; data downloads
What's not so great: Crashes, umpteen time-consuming updates upon launch
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

No problems except that i had to call TT support because I couldn't find answer to my question in Help. TT support was great. I had them call me back and Michelle provided excellent assistance.
What's great about it: Guidance
What's not so great: Help function is a bit cryptic at times
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments, I moved
