Do it yourself

If you want to save money and don't mind spending a few hours doing your own finances then turbo tax is for you.
What's great about it: Simple to use and able to do taxes at my leisure
What's not so great: none

TTTT Terrific Taxes with Turbo Tax

I have used year after year and had no prior tax knowledge. It is so easy to use. Guides you through everything if you need that extra help.
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: Have to buy the Premier now instead of Deluxe and it is a lot more expensive

Overall easy process

Have been using Turbo Tax for 8 years now and has always worked as advertised without issues. This year went smoothly again. Easy to use and follow. I would recommend this over using a tax preparation service (which I last did many years ago).
What's great about it: Easy to enter info, easy links to IRS where needed and smooth process for a non-accountant
What's not so great: Wish they would include 1 state filing in the price since everyone has to file at least 1 state return.

Update Nightmare

I am using the MAC version of TT and every time I opened it, TT required an update which always failed. I eventually had to enter the application library and force it to run from a file there. This happens each year. Please fix it as I am loosing confidence in the software.
What's great about it: the premier version really helped with NQS and the brokerage downloading was flawless

Awful experience

This was the worst experience I have ever had with tax preparation. I bought Turbo Tax this year because I had sold a duplex, and I wanted the extra help. First, I couldn't find the correct instructions (Turbo Tax Help took me to rentals, which didn't work); it was only much later that I realized I could put the sale in the category of Business property.
In addition, Turbo Tax seemed difficult to work fully with a MAC. I have used Turbo Tax about ten years ago, and then it was excellent.
This was such an awful experience that I doubt I will ever buy Turbo Tax again.
What's great about it: Went step by step
What's not so great: Horrible instructions for selling a duplex.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

We have been using TurboTax for many years. The first year, my wife, who is by background a tax attorney, said,"What do we need this for"? After the first year, she even lets me do the taxes.
What's great about it: Fast, efficient, accurate
What's not so great: Haven't found any major issues
