I have used Turbotax for several years. It gets better every year. I rely on its advice and accuracy. I have been happy with the speed with which the tax return can be completed. The only delay has been in receiving documents from all the sources.
What's great about it: Easy, user friendly, relevant advice and fast completion
What's not so great: Nothing I can think of.

Buggy software, doesn't cover all cases

Overall, TurboTax is a good program for doing taxes. I wish they would explain more clearly sometimes what the purpose is of some of the questions they ask in the Easy Step process. If one is not sure how to answer, knowing the purpose or tax aspect of the question would help.
Quite often in the 2015 version of TurboTax, it would hang when I tried to switch to the Forms view. Very time consuming to have to force quit TurboTax and restart. This didn't happen in previous versions I used.
TurboTax needs to better handle how to report multiple 1099-Q's if the beneficiary was not the recipient of all the 1099-Q's. For example, a non-dependent student (filing as single) has a 1099-Q from a Coverdell ESA that was sent to him (w/ his SSN). He also had a disbursement from a state qualified plan that was sent to his parents (their SSN) because it was a reimbursement for tuition paid. TurboTax was not able to provide help as to how to report the 1099-Q in this case. If it's reported on the parents' return, then TT needs to take into account the other 1099-Q sent to the student to make sure total disbursements do not exceed education expenses.
What's great about it: Easy Step walks you through process, free e-file, can toggle to forms
What's not so great: TurboTax would hang quite often; Easy Step did not cover some situations

Performance Issues
on April 13, 2016
Posted by: spradhi
I have been turbo tax user for 14 years and i have not used any other product. However this year I was really tempted to try another software - reason performance is terrible. Once i imported my stock sale transactions (more than 1000+ records) system came to crawl. It took more than 5 minutes+ for every action. System was not sale the issue (i have a brand new macbook pro 16gb ram etc). Only way i could complete was delete my import, complete all sections and then go back and add stock sale transactions.
What's great about it: Easy to use, very intuitive
What's not so great: Performance Terrible for large number of transactions
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Absolutely Awesome Way To Save at Tax Time
on April 13, 2016

I used Turbo Tax several years ago to save thousands on professional tax preparation. I have been staying with it for obvious reasons. It is fairly painless to complete and inexpensive to purchase. It is the best game out there!
What's great about it: Easy to file even though not a financial type
What's not so great: You must be sure to import previous year right at start
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Works well with the normal items. I am using the premier version.
Areas that need improvement.
1. Short and long term capital gains data entry. I would rate it as very slow considering the entries required. It is very bad when entering more than 24 sells for more than one type of gains-the instructions at the start are bad for this by telling user to select all of the different gains they have-it is better to do one at a time if there is more than 24 lines to enter.
2. Education deduction section-very poor and difficult to follow.
3. Instructions for entering a 6 digit pin-terrible in current version.
For items 1 and 3 Thankful for the users that provided workable solutions to these. They definitely did a far superior job to what Turbo Tax guidelines provided. I also noticed that one of the users had contacted your office and what the Turbo Tax employee told them was wrong pertaining to item1-the desk top version also has a problem when more than 24 lines are entered.
What's great about it: Does the main items well. Transfering last years returns worked well.
What's not so great: Has at least 3 areas where improvements need to be maid.
