As usual with this, the most frustrating thing was getting all the information together. I've done less complicated returns with lots more frustration. I find tax filing stressful, and can use whatever I can get.
What's great about it: It kept track of everything.
What's not so great: The version that worked for me last year no longer works for me, and my finances did not get more complicated.

Works fine but was easier to use in past years

Over the last couple years the the reference material has moved from the desktop to the internet and more toward the community instead of real reference material like the IRS or state. Seems like it is geared for easy returns no clear lookup functions to understand what the form is asking for
What's great about it: easy to use for straight forward tax returns
What's not so great: doesn't have lookup reference fields in most lines

Thank the Lord for Turbo Tax

This was my first return and for some reason, I had to go back and forth between my parents return and my brother's return with lots of numbers. I do not think I would have been able to complete the return correctly if not for Turbo Tax
What's great about it: It enabled me to get through a very complicated return
What's not so great: The cost of using Turbo Tax for the same types of returns keeps increasing each year.

The software helps you find all the deductions that can possibly apply to you. It also gives you the opportunity to look up the exact law that gives you the deductions. I have used turbotax since 2007 and will never use anything else.
What's great about it: Finds all deductions you can apply for
What's not so great: The process is long - but worth it
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

More bugs...

Crashed 3 times and software response after questions was sometimes slow... like it was interacting on the web... when it wasn't or should not have been. This was not my computer.
What's great about it: Overall flow of easy step was excellent and what I expected from TT.
What's not so great: Software crashed 3 times on me although I did not lose anything major, it was frustrating. Software did hang

Federal Fine, Massachusetts is junk

Very frustrating. Error on spouse's healthcare form that couldn't be fixed. Paid the money to file MA electronically which was way too much and then couldn't file electronically because of the error that couldn't be fixed and couldn't change choice to file by mail. Very annoying. My advice is don't buy the state or move out of MA before you do.
What's great about it: Improved interview questions on federal
What's not so great: No help, and MA state return had many problems
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
