A little "UNDERWHELMED"!

To start, some of my frustration is likely my own fault, BUT, not all of it either.
Last year, unfortunately, I chose your "on-line" version, it worked well enough, but, this year I spent hours trying to get previous years returns info. I'm still working on getting everything. Also, the number of times I had to repeatedly input the same info was a stupid design idea, security aside. Tedious "on and on" questions.
I've used TURBOTAX for approx. 20 yrs!!
What's great about it: I got through it!!
What's not so great: Very frustrating, not intuitive, confusing, very difficult to collect previous years info.

Program had difficulty handling my NQSOs

This is my first time using TurboTax. I read their FAQs to get help with handling my non-qualified stock options (NQSOs). Although the online help seemed to answer my questions, the automatic calculations did not work. After one lengthy support session, I was advised to override the field that was causing the problems. BUT, I learned when I tried to efile, that the system will not allow you to efile if you have an override in one of the fields. So it was another hour and a half on the phone before we were finally able to address this issue.
What's great about it: online support was available
What's not so great: time consuming seeking support, and error messages that were not self-explanatory

If you keep good records through the year, it makes it easy. I like to use the guidelines from the previous year to guide my record keeping for the next year.

No NYS question about tax freeze credit. No info on how to claim it. No way to search NYS special code A6? No way to pin point a topic, A6 code, and go back to the appropriate question in step by step to change it.
Maybe you can put a link to the IRS or NYS tax website on where to find specific info on the topic you're working on.
What's great about it: good switching from forms to step by step, good importing data
What's not so great: Not enough specifics on help topics

Life Saver

Mostly really easy. Had to do taxes for my brother after doing ours. He has been battling bladder cancer and this took a lot of hassle out of our lives!
Would love to have the option of alphabetizing long lists (like charities, medical payments) to make data entry and editing faster and easier.
What's great about it: Made doing taxes for my brother possible!
What's not so great: Some clunky screens when data piles up.

It still needs to populate the information entered from the W-2 into all the required worksheets. such as the L code under section 12 of the W-2
What's great about it: the import option is great
What's not so great: the system doesn't transfer the L code input on the w-2 to the worksheets
