The Only Way to Go

I have used Turbo Tax for several years now. I find that the product is easy to use and very informative. During the process of preparing you taxes I find that it is easy to have your questions answered. Once you understand how the program works I find that you can move through it with ease at the click of a button. Flagging the places that you need to come back to has help me on more then one instance when I needed to gather additional information on a certain subject. I would recommend Turbo Tax to anyone for business or personnel use.

What's great about it: Easily guided step by step.
What's not so great: No cons encountered.

The program suggests taking an American Opportunity Credit where it seems to not be allowed.
In particular, college tuition for our dependent son was paid with tax-exempt disbursements from a 529 fund owned by his grandmother.
The fine print indicates we cannot take the credit in this situation, but the program insisted on giving it to us. We finally just avoided entering the 1098-T at all.

Some Bugs This Year

Last year was great - no problems.
This year, the review kept insisting there were problems in the work sheets. One of the bugs: 1099-B worksheet kept insisting there was a negative number listed as the "Cost or Adjusted Basis" - but, I kept checking and there was not a negative number. That eventually disappeared as I kept running the review - although, I never made a correction to that erroneous claim. Another example was when "short term gains were not put in the "purchased after Dec such and such year column" - so, I had to delete that figure in the "purchased before Dec...column" and type it in the correct column. Another worksheet example is the 3 short term gain listings didn't show up, although they were correctly listed on the tax forms, but the software would not allow me to continue until I listed 1 of the 3 trades in the worksheet, but then the worksheet added that to the actual filing form, so there are now 4 trades listed, instead of the 3. There are numerous other examples, so this year I am not happy with Turbo Tax. I will probably have to complete the forms outside of Turbo Tax because there are problems like the above on some of the form pages and I don't know how to get Turbo Tax to correct these bugs. If I had these problems last year, I would not have purchased it this year.

No More Paper Forms!

This is my third year using TurboTax, and it's the best, especially for simple returns! I love the convenience and the check for any errors.
What's great about it: It's easy to use and helps you through all the tax law.
What's not so great: Pop ups (seeking contributions_

Program Fine -- Life Changes Force New Strategy

Been using Turbo tax initially on MAC systems then PC. Had a lull a couple years back but the program seems to be back on its game. This year more straight forward than some recent years and things just seemed clearer. Also explanation where simpler and seemed more straight forward. Think I only said Huh once maybe twice.
What's great about it: This year entry and interaction better than last year
What's not so great: None with the program but have to change my tax profile
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
