I put in capital gains distributions and the program took them to be a sale of a mutual fund. I couldn't find a way to correct it. It repeatedly wanted me to put in information about the sale of the fund. there was no sale only a fund distribution.

2015 tax drudgery

Had to ask a Tax Attrny friend on how to handle the 1099 misc(received as a service award for service as a volunteer firefighter in the 70's). He said its other income, done and done.
What's great about it: quick, easy to transfer prior yr
What's not so great: Had a 1099-misc and the program did not provide a suitable option on how received

not up to expectation!

I had a exception for over payment and was not able to enter it. Had to mail the return and had to go to a CPA to get the answer on how to process it. It was last years over payment of SS to insurance. Should have been able to enter but had to override and then it would not let me process the return. What a disaster.
Have used turbo tax for 10 plus years and would change after this years problems!

What's great about it: did not run well on my mac. It would not tab through and was not user friendly

Just One Issue

I have used TurboTax for many years. It helps tremendously in navigating through the complicated process of filing state and federal taxes. However, this year I had an issue that confused me. When I attempted to e-file the state return, a message was displayed to alert me that the 'Exemption credit' field on the tax form had been overridden. I had to remove the override flag to continue with the filing. When I went back to the state form, this field was marked with a red exclamation point. When I removed the override, an amount was auto entered in the field. I had manually removed that value earlier after doing a manual review because it looked like an error to me. If there was an issue with this field, why wasn't it flagged when I did the TurboTax review instead of when I was in the middle of the e-file process?
What's great about it: Straight forward data entry. Automatic calculations greatly simplify a very complicated process.
What's not so great: Review didn't catch an 'error' until I tried to e-file.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

It makes me very mad that I have to pay extra to Efile my state returns. I may search for other software next year.
What's great about it: Good enough, I think, but how do I know ?

Typical Turbo-Tax

Again a good tax package that does have software flaws, especially in help sections associated with income and deduction sections. This may be a problem for me since mycomputer was upgraded to Windows 10 operating system.
What's great about it: Generally easy to use and follow
