What's great about it: Easy to follow and I really liked the modifications you made to Capital Gains input screen
What's not so great: Would like to be able to print more than just the forms. Would like to be able to print page or screen
Pros: I bought or sold investments

2016 Return
on April 11, 2016

Overall a pretty good product. Made doing most of the return easy. Frustrated when it asked me to go back and get info from 2014 return when it was done by Turbo Tax and some information was imported earlier.
What's great about it: Overall, pretty easy to follow and enter information.
What's not so great: Logging in to file was one of the most frustrating things ever!
Pros: I bought or sold investments

good but still glitches

Have used Turbo Tax for at least 10 years, easy to use but when you have to go back and make a correction, it can be impossible at times to find the right spot. Even with the EZ function, we often cannot make the fix. And the estimated tax portion is kind of buried. It should be easier to just print those out.
Search needs to be better
What's great about it: easy to use
What's not so great: when an error or question comes up, hard to adjust

A Little More Difficult Than Usual
on April 12, 2016

Even though the information for calculating long and short term gain on employee stock and RSUs was imported from the brokerage, there were errors that had to be addressed manually. This is the most frustrating aspect of Turbo Tax!
What's great about it: Most items handled with ease using walk through method.
What's not so great: Handling of employee stock and restricted stock units (RSU)
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Good Program

User Interface is getting outdated. Special circumstance menus can be hard to follow and hard to understand at times. I found myself falling down the wrong rabbit hole several times. Ultimately, I was able to find my way.
What's great about it: Walks you through your taxes fairly easily
What's not so great: User Interface is a little clunky and hard to follow at times
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Declining
on April 12, 2016

I used TurboTax back in the 90's and early 00's, then did my own for a few years, and a few years ago started using software again. For tax year 2013, I used their major competitor and regretted it, so for 2014 I switched to TT and they clearly shine over the other major software name. But this year I'm wondering... are they still the best? Is this as good as it gets? Because they seem to be declining.
Some of the info in the help section appears to be outdated, applicable to previous versions of the program, specifically the section on 1099-MISC royalty income and whether or not it CAN be for hobby income rather than only investment or only self-employed Schedule C. The "help" answers refer to non-existent TT interview questions, so are no help at all. but the most glaring problem for me is the continued practice of telling me that I need to submit a Florida return, when Florida does not have individual income tax. This freaked me out last year. This year it is more annoying and causes me to question their ability. Why do they persist with that? So for next year I'll look into other options. TT may well end up being the best there is, but it is definitely are not as good as it used to be.
What's great about it: easy to use, clearer info than competitor
What's not so great: Some glaring problems

Why did I stress before starting?

Overall, very satisfied. I felt uncomfortable with the payment options for state e-filing fee. Inuit did not recognize my correct answer to their security question, which made me very uneasy. I think the state e-filing fee should be allowed to be deducted from state refund, if getting a refund.
What's great about it: easy to use, asks me everything, gives me confidence, way to avoid errors
What's not so great: computer froze at one point, poor & unclear payment options for state efiling

TurboTax is a very easy to use program. It is especially easy when one is up against a deadline. I would highly recommend this program.
What's great about it: Very easy to use
What's not so great: None that I can tell at this time
