My Tax Preparer for 20 years
on April 11, 2016

I've been utilizing Turbo Tax to file our taxes & our children's for 2 decades. Enjoyed the transfer-ability and ease of record-keeping, especially owning a small business & rental properties.
What's great about it: Reliable, efficient, comprehensive
What's not so great: Paying to e-file state tax, no discount for repeat customers

awesome refund

As usual, my experience was great with turbotax. I've been using turbotax to pay taxes for years. I have had to change the type of turbotax I used based on my life circumstances. No matter what changes - home business, rental property - turbotax always comes through and makes my life easy.
What's great about it: simple ans easy
What's not so great: none
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved

OOOPS overbilled!!!
on April 11, 2016
Posted by: N9KYC
To file state, it charged me a high rate for two states I needed to file. I could only paper file the non-resident state and it did not give me a credit back. The billing then charged me for my resident state filing a second time at a lower rate. Poor logic, must take lessons from ISPs.
What's great about it: Efficient.
What's not so great: Overbilled rate and usage, double whammy!
Pros: I bought or sold investments

less complex then the IRS
on April 11, 2016

Over all it did a really good job. The program did well in the complex tax codes that no God would ever write. The IRS takes tons of paper and rules and yet God gave Moses just 10 commandments for the whole world. Yep! on just one tablet.
Turbo Tax works as well as the one tablet.
What's great about it: Kept to the topics needed to file
What's not so great: no cons
Pros: I bought or sold investments

I have RMD deductions unfortunately I became sick and did not meet the required amount set by the IRS by about $200. The program we could address the this problem by later by asking for a waiver and that it would be addressed later. Never saw another comment. Not sure what to do. Will look around next year for another vendor
What's great about it: easy to use
What's not so great: absolutley no support what so every

Fuzzy Ending
on April 11, 2016

I would like to see the tax computation sheet.
Last few years, TURBO gave me specific instructions and
questions on how I wanted to file my State Taxes...I did not
experience that this year. What happened?
What's great about it: Walked me through all steps with ease.
What's not so great: Thoroughly confused on State Tax filing

Make you feel competent
on April 11, 2016

We have always used a brick and mortar service. The service was congenial, but the amount of control and input was limited as to how they filled out the information. This system allowed us to remain in control, go at our pace, and insure we knew our information. For doing taxes, it was actually a calm event.
What's great about it: Fast downloads from Scottrade, Betterment, and Lending Club allowed a FAST transition that was shocking
What's not so great: Some of the deeper meanings of the forms was lost in translation.
Pros: I bought or sold investments
