I don't think being paid a trifle as an elected board member should be figured as ordinary income; My Adobe Reader is the latest available but you recognize it not.
What's great about it: Fast & Easy
What's not so great: Turbo Tax won't recognize my Adobe Reader

Easy breezy lemon squeezy preparation! Thanks!

Have filed with TurboTax for the past 6 years. The process using the application improves year over year. This year it was easy breezy lemon squeezy for my fairly complex tax situation. Thanks for taking care of this stressful activity which has the potential for extreme discomfort and dire consequences should I misunderstand what is the right thing to do!
What's great about it: Fast preparation especially with prior-year imports. Prompt contact with a tax pro when needed.
What's not so great: The IT systems let me down when I tried to pay for AuditDefense and pay for eFiling the State return.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Wish IRS wold simplify tax code. However, Turbotax did provide considerable suggestions and prompts.
What's great about it: Held my electronic hands throughout process.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

I can't believe I ever did my taxes without TurboTax. This is my 3rd year to use this software and it is so user friendly. It asks you straight forward questions. Tells you exactly what documents you need before beginning a section. Love the "Flags" to mark your spot if you need to stop a session for any reason. You get plenty of opportunities to review and print everything before you file. Love it.
What's great about it: Easy, Quick, Straight Forward
What's not so great: None
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

K1s and It's Deductible Issues
on April 11, 2016
Posted by: Glen42015
K1 form data entry requires splitting everything between Ordinary Business Income (Box 1) and Rental Income (Box 2). The K-1's I receive due not separate/allocate other items by income type. This may be an IRS issue but then the IRS should change the K-1 form.
It's Deductible and the required use of the interview Mode for entry of non cash contributions Is way too cumbersome for the entry of a large number of contributions. The number of items listed in It's Deductible is too few. Simplify the entry of noncash contribution valued by the tax payer.
What's great about it: Filing would be impossible without a program like TurboTax
What's not so great: K1s and It's Deductible Have Problems.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

An unpleasant task simplified
on April 11, 2016

I have always done my tax returns and was thinking recently of the days when I had to pore through the IRS instructions and forms and scribble out calculations on several sheets of notepaper. I've used TurboTax and it's predecessor for nearly twenty years or so, and using the same thorough software each year makes it easier even if a tax situation is more difficult or complex. Even though I'm accustomed to the process I usually go through the Q&A format to make sure I haven't missed anything. The program does make one of life's unpleasant tasks much more tolerable. With the importing, I can usually be done in less time each year.
What's great about it: Importing from previous returns and documents
What's not so great: The increasing complexity of the tax code
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Might change in future

I debated this year about using turbo tax. Finally decided to keep using them and get the more expensive version. I like the ability to import the previous years data and returns. This year the program seemed to have even less information about specific questions they were asking and only pointed you to the IRS instructions (which is not helpful). The program limits the number of trades supported for capital gains and I will likely hit the limit next year (almost did this year) for an active trader. They support less than 2500 transactions total. Turbo tax couldn't handle K-1 partnership easily and left things confused. foreign tax credit, it basically said "you need to make an adjustment. Look at the IRS documents and adjust the forms" No help, or support except for putting in fields into the IRS form. Provided incorrect and incomplete data into forms, so had to go through the interview questions again and see if it would insert the right values (identified by error checking of data they put into the forms). Used their audit defense because I don't really trust what turbo tax put into all the fields, but I guess in the end, they I signed the return with those values.
Not sure I'd recommend to new users. Existing users gain from importing data from previous returns which really helps.
What's great about it: Imports previous years. Many financial institutions have imports available
What's not so great: Costly and less features each year. Need to continually upgrade. Not suitable for active traders. Don't trust results
Pros: I bought or sold investments
