Turbotax Premier

It would be helpful if Turbotax provided guidelines or recommendations as what entry topics will most impact your refund, eg., " if you find more medical expenses you will achieve deduction eligibility" or, sch E deduction has reached your limit for the current tax year based on your income limitation. balance will be deferred to future retuns".
What's great about it: Easy to follow and thorough.
What's not so great: Customer has to trust that all refund opportunities have been offerred.

Seems to get better every year

For those that signup early and use every year the price should be the lowest anywhere.
What's great about it: Covers most everything that has affected me.
What's not so great: Even though I buy every year with the advanced sign up I find the price lower at other discount stores.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Better every year

I have been using a tax preparation application of one brand or another since the mid-1990s. I have been using TurboTax for over a decade. At this point I would think it difficult for them to streamline the experience much more, but the experience becomes smoother every year. The guided interview leads me through all of the areas I need to address without wasting any time wandering into areas I do not need to address. The Tax Due status window in the header bar has been there for several years now and I like having the changing tally as I wade through the process.
What's great about it: The "let us walk your through this" features are getting smoother and easier to navigate.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Turbo Tax Comments -2015
These are problems/inconveniences with the program.
1. Interview process is too cumbersome. Put more questions on a "page/screen." Sometimes one can enter only one or a very few items, after which you must click yes/no/continue, and then go through MANY other screens and repeat clicking yes/no/continue. PLEASE put more questions on a page/screen. 2. The program does not always retain entries. Often one must go through the interview process again to review or change or add entries. Although SOME previously answered questions or entries retain the input information, the program should retain ALL entries. It is a nuisance nuisance to have to answer the same questions repeatedly and carefully watch which entries are retained and those not retained. 3. I previously requested that you enable the list of dividend or interest payers to be alphabetized. You did this (thank you), but there is no "information" or "instruction" that this feature exists, so unless one accidentally clicks on the heading, one would never know about it. BUT the main problem is that the alphabetization is again not retained by the program. If one gets to the list screen again, it goes back to the unalphabetized list. 4. You seriously need to expand the text box when entering sales (capital gains) which flow to Form 8949. After entering data in the interview process, one cannot generally even see the name of the company on the Form 8949. The name of the company entry box may show something like "1000 shares of " and then a long number (probably CUSIP #) which more than fills the portion of the box that is visible. One may have a page of entries with "1000 shares of" and one cannot see any of the names of the companies. This entry box needs to be enlarged. I would suggest that you put the name of the company first. Also, it is very difficult to change a name. One cannot always use the arrow keys or key combinations to go to the beginning or ending of the entry. The import feature is VERY NICE. Thank you. But some imports don't have a cost basis, which needs to be input, but it is difficult to find the name of the security. 5. I have been using TT for probably 20-25 years. I particularly like the What-if Worksheet to help in planning for the next year. But I would like an enhancement. As with the 1040, the W If W has a line for dividends, interest, capital gains, etc. It would be extremely helpful to have some linked worksheets where one could list several sources for dividends etc., just as one does on the 1040. This doesn't have to be elaborate--it is just an estimate, but it would help provide backup information for the "total" placed on the form line. Presently I have to prepare a separate spreadsheet, and then update changes, and then change the What If Worksheet. You have this for itemized deductions at the end of the form--it would be a tremendous enhancement if you had a linked worksheet for income items, such as dividends, capital gains, etc. 6. There are some line items that allow an attachment for an explanation of an item. However, these "attachments" are usually specific to a limited number of line items. Please add a separate attachment which could be used for general explanations. For example, I have a thorough explanation as to why I had a loss on my farm rental, but I found no place to attach or include such explanation. I had the choice of not attaching an explanation or mailing, rather than e-filing, my return. I strongly suggest you add a place one can make general comments/explanations.
What's great about it: automatic calculations; entry transfer from one form to another; import from brokerage feature
What's not so great: interview process too cumbersome; program does not always retain entries
Pros: I bought or sold investments
