Overall a good experience and worth the expenditure of funds.
What's great about it: Easier than manual
What's not so great: No mention of certain tax forms (i.e. form 5498)

Gets better every year

I have used Turbo Tax for almost 30 years, and it just keeps getting better and easier every year. I have a complicated return, and Turbo Tax makes things clear and simple. I also like the "It's Deductible" help for donations of items, and the option to have help if I am audited.
What's great about it: automatic calculations, transfers from last year
What's not so great: none
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Super Fast and Easy Way to File
on April 9, 2016

I like this program because it is so easy to understand, has helps all over the place with explanations, it's super fast and efficient, and lets you track your progress in the process of entering data. Also the format and type of font used with bold lettering makes it clean, neat, and very easy to read. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Solid product

I've used turbo tax since 1998. As my life became more complicated turbo tax was able to adjust and cover all my tax situations. However, the federal tax code for college tuition/scholarships/education credits is so confounding that turbo tax has not done a very good job of explaining what numbers to enter and where.
Still way easier and cheaper than going to a CPA :)
What's great about it: Covered multitude of areas
What's not so great: Instructions not clear trying to explain insanely crazy federal regs concerning tuition and scholarships
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Fast Processing of Taxes
on April 9, 2016

Turbo Tax is the quintessential tax preparation software/program. I have been using it since 1996. It is fast, easy, and accurate. There are some issues, however, where it asks you to look at your old tax returns and find obscure data imbedded in them. My tax return is more than 150 pages, and the computer should be able to find this information, not ask me to go look for it manually. I can't understand why TurboTax does this. The other gripe is how TT wants you to enter in certain data, instead of doing it for you. It is always cautious, and wants you to make the mistake, if there is one to be made. That is a bit annoying. Despite these problems, TT has gotten better over the years, and this year was the best and fastest ever. I did my return in 3.5 hours, which is the fastest ever. Thank you TT!! I will be back next year. Hope you work out the minor issues.
What's great about it: Easy to Use; Downloads Forms from Financial Institutions
What's not so great: Still asked you to find information from past returns, why can't it just find it? This is a computer, right?

Programming Error Needs Fixing
on April 9, 2016

If you are disqualified from taking the educational tax credit and have taken 529 distributions double check the calculation of the taxable portion of your 529 distributions. Despite not qualifying for the credit TurboTax will assume you did when calculating the taxable portion of your 529 distribution, As a result your qualifying education expenses for this calculation will be incorrectly reduced by up to $10,000 and you will incorrectly taxed on a portion of your 529 distribution. I corrected my forms manually and reduced my taxes by $600. Other than this glitch, TurboTax was simple and easy to use. ….but this programming error must be fixed.
What's great about it: As usual, step by step instructions and forms easy to follow, navigate and complete
What's not so great: Error in calculation of qualified educational expenses for purposes of calculating taxable portion of 529 distributions

I am frightened to death of not being able to reopen it. You give no directions as to saving. You do not mention it despite all the soft talk all over the place. I knew enough to save it to my Pc, I think I did the right thing. However, when I came back the next day to complete my form I got a message: "Turbo Tax has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." I googled up a phone number and got a support ticket. I called and was phoned back in less than 15 minutes. I then was on the phone for 2 hrs. and fifteen minutes. The rep Ashley was fantastic, but it stil was an ordeal. Several reinstall and uninstalls were attempted. Finally, a new download was pushed, and after several attempts, This was installed and finally made operative. I have Windows 10 and learned that even using Edge, your ability to do Screen Shares if not quite workable with Windows 10 which is really not that new. Bottom line. I wind up working way beyond good sense and attention because I am scared to close the program and not able to get back in as today. This is really something you need to address
What's not so great: No directions about saving a partly completed return and reopening it
