Not perfect, but always improving

I've used TTax for 28 yrs, but almost switched last year when the price jumped for a simple return with mutual fund income. Still willing to consider alternatives. That said, Intuit does seem to make the return easier to file each year -- this year especially getting rid of the surprise additional review after the start of e-filing process, which was really annoying last year. There does seem to be a bug in TTax automatically generating a mysterious K-1 that is widely reported, but other than that, no problems.
What's great about it: No surprise final final error checks after starting e-filing. Covers everyting pretty clearly and steadily improves.
What's not so great: Gotten really pricey for a simple return with mutual funds.

reviewing past returns

trying to review last years return was impossible. the program would not allow me to view or print last years return, all it would allow was transfer of information to a new return, which is not what i needed. i closed the program, opened last years program and printed.
and now, since i didn't give a high grade it won't let me submit this review!

Charity donation is not clear

I have donated lot of books to library. This software provides the options to select child book, hard cover book and softcover books for that donation during the tax preparation. But, It displays the description as 'Clothing, Foorwear, Accessories & House hold items' in filing returns. It is confusing.
What's great about it: It gives all the items and the corresponding amount to deduct
What's not so great: Displays the general description on the filing for different charitable organization.

529 info was terrible and full of errors

This experience was stressful and horrific. Just search the help files to see how difficult it is to use this software if you have any 529 distributions. No insight or advice or clarification on 1099-Q data. Not going to take the time to list all the problems. Worst experience ever

What's great about it: Have used it for years. Good, thorough,easy to use. Thanks.
What's not so great: You have to make the print bigger or give the buyer/user that option. Us old folks have presbyopia.
